At the basis of chemical evolution are right-‐handed and left-‐handed amino acids. The smallest living thing is estimated to have 400 amino acids, but they are only left-‐handed. The chance of 400 hundred only left-‐ handed amino acids coming together in one living organism without any right-‐handed amino acids is one in ten followed by 123 zeros. ______ 2. For chemical evolution to work you need more than just 400 all left-‐handed amino acids. They all have to line up in the right order. The probability of that happening by chance is one in ten followed by 240 zeros. ______ 3. Even if one functional protein with 400 all left-‐handed amino acids evolved, it still cannot self-‐replicate without an encyclopedic “manual” called DNA. The statistical chance for just one DNA to evolve would take more than one in ten followed by 147 zeros years! ______ 4.
