ASP Inc. and The Pierce LockCraft Company Working together as Partners, Working together to be Your Partner ASP Inc. has supplied replacement automotive locks and lock service parts to the locksmith market since 1980. In the beginning ASP specialized in parts for European and Japanese vehicles that were not otherwise available to the locksmith market. In 1996 ASP expanded its range to include locks and parts manufactured by Hurd Lock and Manufacturing Inc., a subsidiary of Avis Industrial Co. Inc. Hurd products consisted primarily of original equipment replacements for Ford vehicles. ASP served as the master distributor for Hurd automotive lock products to the locksmith market. In 2005 Avis Industrial Co. Inc. acquired Candados Universales de Mexico S.A. de C.V. (CUMSA), which was the factory that manufactured the Lockcraft range of automotive locks and parts. In December 2006 the decision was made to close the Hurd factory in Greeneville, Tennessee, and consolidate all manufacturing at the CUMSA factory in Matamoros, Mexico. The new consolidated operation was renamed The Pierce LockCraft Company, Inc., and remains a subsidiary of Avis Industrial Co. Inc. Since ASP had been serving as master distributor for Hurd products since 1996, it was only natural that the role of ASP be expanded to include the Lockcraft product range manufactured by CUMSA. On January 1, 2008, the Lockcraft product range became part of the ASP product range. Locksmith distributors now have access to the complete ASP, Hurd, and Lockcraft product ranges all being shipped from the ASP warehouse. One of the first duties of ASP was to produce a complete catalog including all ASP, Hurd, and Lockcraft parts. One problem was that much of the existing Lockcraft product information was incomplete or inaccurate. Many hours which turned into days, weeks, and months were spent verifying the application information for each part in the range. Information was checked and double checked so that this catalog would be as complete and accurate as possible. This catalog is the first major result of the partnership between ASP and Pierce LockCraft. For various reasons there will probably never be one company with the ability to supply every part for every vehicle on the road. But the combination of the ASP, Hurd, and Lockcraft product ranges covers more makes and models of vehicles and more part numbers under one roof than any other company. The Pierce LockCraft Company is dedicated to continuous improvement of quality and expansion of the product range for original equipment markets. ASP will continue to do its job in bringing these products to you through our distribution system. ASP and Pierce LockCraft – working together as partners, working together to be YOUR partner.

How to read the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the car you are working on: You can find the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in several places on the car. This number can usually be seen by looking through the windshield where the dash meets the firewall and the bottom of the windshield, forward from the steering wheel. The number is mounted on a plate so that it can easily be viewed from the outside of the car. The number can also usually be found on a plate or sticker in one or more locations around the car. Popular places to find this plate or sticker are under the hood or on one of the door jambs visible when the door is open. The vehicle identification number is 17 characters, but the most important information that you need will be found in 2 positions: Position 1 identifies the country of manufacture of the vehicle. This is important for some models such as Toyota where the lock used may be different depending upon whether the car is made in USA or made in Japan. Position 10 identifies the model year of the car. Consider this the final authority on the model year of the car. Some cars have a data plate attached somewhere on the car with a “date of manufacture” field that may be confusing. For example, the “date of manufacture” plate may say something like “02 04” which may be interpreted as “February 2004” but may actually mean “February 4” without the year. Always check position 10 of the VIN number to be sure! Character in pos. 1

Check this sample VIN number: JT2AE09W3P1234567 The character in position 1 is “J” which means the car is made in Japan The character in position 10 is “P” which means the car is a 1993 model year. The last 6 digits are the sequential production number. Sometimes mid-year production changes are identified by this part of the VIN.

Terminology Which is the left side of the car and which is the right side?

Coded and uncoded locks We have always tried to provide you with as many choices as possible to make your work as easy as possible. This led to some cases where several different part numbers could be used to service the same vehicle year and model application. As our range has grown to thousands of part numbers for hundreds of applications, we have been forced to reevaluate our ability to offer multiple choices for the same application. As such in this catalog we have consolidated some part numbers in an effort to create a balance between full coverage and improving the availability of products through our distribution system. One area which we have consolidated part numbers is in coded and uncoded versions of the same replacement lock. There is a definite value to uncoded service packages for some design locks such as General Motors and Ford sidebar locks. But for some locks the difference in labor time for rekeying between coded and uncoded locks is very small.

Please note the following designations which you will find in this catalog:

Complete lock -

a fully assembled lock with at least 1 working key, and with the correct pawl for the designated application. (In some cases a complete lock may be supplied unassembled but including all of the parts to assemble and create a complete lock coded to the original car key.)

Coded lock

- a fully assembled lock with at least 1 working key, not necessarily including the pawl.

Uncoded service pack

- this is an unassembled package of parts to be assembled to the original car key. A coded lock may be substituted for the unassembled package of parts depending upon future availability of stock. For any lock designed where the face cap must be removed and destroyed in order to disassemble the lock for rekeying, if a coded lock is substituted for the unassembled package of parts, a spare face cap will be included in the package. Pawls are not included in an uncoded service pack unless noted.

Lock service package -

this is a coded lock including a spare face cap for rekeying (if necessary), not including pawl unless noted. An unassembled package of parts may be substituted for the coded lock depending upon future availability of stock.

Availability of Parts On the line for each specific application, the right column lists the tumbler series used for that application, along with the face cap or other parts needed for rekeying the lock. Unless noted otherwise, this information applies to both the locks supplied by ASP and the locks originally installed on the car when it was new. If the lock originally installed on the car may use different parts from replacement locks, that information is also included to the best of our knowledge. If no face cap reference is listed for a specific application, that means we do not offer a face cap for that application. In most cases this means that either that the lock is disassembled without removing a face cap, or the lock can be disassembled without destroying the face cap. For applications where a face cap must be removed to disassemble the lock and that face cap is not available from ASP, we warn you about that to the best of our knowledge. We have tried to list all vehicle brands and models normally sold in the USA and Canada, including those for which ASP has no parts available. If we do not have parts for the model you are working on, we try to tell you to the best of our knowledge where you may be able to find the parts you need. We hope that this feature helps make this catalog more useful. We also list some parts which are no longer available from ASP. Even though a particular part number may be out of stock at the ASP warehouse and future stock is no longer available, some distributors and locksmiths may still have stock of those items. We have tried to note each of these items as “Discontinued When Out” or “DWO”. However even the status of discontinued items is subject to change. Over the years we have discontinued several part numbers which we were able to reinstate later. With thousands of part numbers in our range, originating from many different sources, there will certainly be changes in availability, specifications, prices, etc., at any time during the course of time. We will do our best to inform you of changes on www.carlocks.com. The information published in this catalog is accurate to the best of our knowledge at the time of printing.

Where to buy the parts listed in this catalog ASP products are sold through the network of locksmith supply distributors located throughout the USA and Canada. With over 4,000 different part numbers in our range, it is impossible and impractical for distributors to keep every part number in stock. Thus we have assigned each of our part numbers a popularity rating to assist distributors in keeping stock. We have implemented new distributor stocking programs based on these popularity ratings. Distributors who make a commitment to keep stock according to our recommendations are listed on www.carlocks.com. This list is subject to change at any time. Distributors who do not keep the stocking commitment will be removed from the list. Your distributor can also arrange drop shipment of parts not in stock, subject to stock on hand at the ASP warehouse. (All orders must be placed through your distributor, not directly to ASP.) See pages 213-240 for explanations of the product popularity ratings and substitutions for items that are no longer available.
