Click on the line selector marked with arrow in image given below. Once you have clicked (selected) this option, using your cursor, draw a line on scale of the SEM image equal in length to scale of image) as given in photo below
A line has been drwan above the scale bar (in yellow colour)
Click on ANALYZE and select SET SCALE (while the yellow line on scale bar is still there)

Put the scale length of SEM image (100μm in this case) and put the unit on scale of SEM image (μm in this case) in the UNIT of LENGTH box. Click OK. Now the Image has been calibrated and you are ready to measure the particle size
To measure the particle size, using the line option on tool bar, draw a line equal to diameter of the particle (seen in yellow in image below). Then Click ANALYZE and select measure (you can press Ctrl+M as well). You will see the length of the particle on the dialogue box that appears.
This image belwo shows that the particle size measured for 10 particle. You can save the results in *. txt file by clicking on file---save-as-----. Once you have the results save in text file, treat it in origin or excel (see belwo) to fine the average value and standard deviation etc.
