Coming Summer 2018

The Bellevue Transportation Department is installing new bicycle facilities in the Enatai neighborhood this summer. This will help provide a more comfortable bicycling environment through the area and improve connections between the I-90 Trail and Downtown. The project will be funded by the Neighborhood Safety, Connectivity and Congestion Levy, approved by voters in 2016 (BellevueWA.gov/TransportationLevy). Background Information The project helps to complete a gap in one of the city’s eleven priority bicycle corridors, connecting from Enatai to Northtowne via Downtown. Improvements will be made from SE 34th Street to SE 21st Street. There is an existing bike route from SE 21st Street to Main Street. These improvements are part of the Bicycle Rapid Implementation Program, which was developed in 2016 to identify lowcost investments that would help create a complete network of safe bicycle facilities citywide.

Project Description New bike lanes will provide people with a designated space to ride along 108th through the heart of Enatai. Improvements include: • Removing centerline striping and narrowing travel lanes to help calm traffic from SE 34th Street to SE 22nd Street; • Installing buffered bike lanes on both sides of the street from SE 21st Street to SE 25th Street. Bike lane widths will range from 4 to 8 feet with consistent 2-foot wide painted buffers; • Installing shared lane markings (also called sharrows) from SE 25th Street to SE 28th Street. In preparation for the project, 150 feet of onstreet parking adjacent to 10665 SE 22nd Street was repurposed for bike lanes. No other existing uses of the roadway will be impacted. Vehicle travel in both directions will be maintained, and the speed limit will remain 25 mph. Other 2018 Bicycle Projects New bike lanes are also being installed this summer on 108th Avenue NE from Main Street to NE 24th Street.
