Pope Benedict XVI on Twitter As you may have heard recently, Pope Benedict has begun to communicate with the people of the Church through the medium of Twitter. Pope Benedict’s Twitter Account is: @pontifex. Below are three questions he was asked through Twitter, and the responses he gave. I think you will find his answers very meaningful. Q. How can we celebrate the Year of Faith better in our daily lives? @pontifex: By speaking with Jesus in prayer, listening to what he tells you in the Gospel and looking for him in those who are in need. Q. How can faith in Jesus be lived in a world without hope? @pontifex: We can be certain that a believer is never alone. God is the solid rock upon which we build our lives and his love is always faithful. Q. Any suggestions how we can be more prayerful when we are so busy with the demands of work, family and the world? @pontifex: Offer everything you do to the Lord, ask his help in all the circumstances of daily life and remember that he is always beside you. Here are some other messages Pope Benedict XVI issued through Twitter: @pontifex: Everyone’s life of faith has times of light, but also times of darkness. If you want to walk in the light, let the Word of God be your guide. @pontifex: Mary is filled with joy on learning she is to be the mother of Jesus, God’s son made man. True joy comes from union with God. @pontifex: When you deny God, you deny human dignity. Whoever defends God is defending the human person.
Statement by the four Archbishops of Ireland in response to the decision of December 18 by the Government to legislate for abortion The four Catholic Archbishops of Ireland: Cardinal Seán Brady, Archbishop of Armagh; Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin; Archbishop Dermot Clifford, Archbishop of Cashel & Emly; and Archbishop Michael Neary, Archbishop of Tuam, issued the following response to the decision by the Government to legislate for abortion: "Today’s (December 18th) decision by the Irish Government to legislate for abortion should be of the utmost concern to all. If what is being proposed were to become law, the careful balance between the equal right to life of a mother and her unborn child in current law and medical practice in Ireland would be fundamentally changed. It would pave the way for the direct and intentional killing of unborn children. This can never be morally justified in any circumstances. The decision of the Supreme Court in the ‘X’ case unilaterally overturned the clear pro-life intention of the people of Ireland as expressed in Article 40.3.3 of our Constitution. To legislate on the basis of such a flawed judgement would be both tragic and unnecessary. The dignity of the human person and the common good of humanity depend on our respect for the right to life of every person from the moment of conception to natural death. The right to life is the most fundamental of all rights. It is the very basis for every other right we enjoy as persons. The lives of untold numbers of unborn children in this State now depend on the choices that will be made by our public representatives. The unavoidable choice that now faces all our public representatives is: will I chose to defend and vindicate the equal right to life of a mother and the child in her womb in all circumstances, or will I chose to licence the direct and intentional killing of the innocent baby in the womb? Moreover, on a decision of such fundamental moral importance every public representative is entitled to complete respect for the freedom of conscience. No one has the right to force or coerce someone to act against their conscience. Respect for this right is the very foundation of a free, civilised and democratic society. All involved, especially public representatives, must consider the profound moral questions that arise in responding to today’s announcement by the Government. We encourage all to pray that our public representatives will be given the wisdom and courage to do what is right. Thanks from Team Hope

How can a simple shoebox make a difference, it can make a huge difference to a child who receives it filled with love, i e a hat, a scarf, gloves, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, toys, colouring books pencils, sweets and lots of other items which go to make up a shoebox. This year in our warehouse we collected 4,304 shoeboxes from a huge surrounding area including Dublin Kildare and Meath, a lot of work. 2,196 gift filled shoeboxes went to Armenia and 2,108 gift filled shoeboxes went to Odessa in the Ukraine. So know this Christmas there will be a lot of happy children thanks to those who became part of Team Hope by filling a shoebox. Here's wishing you a Wonderful Christmas and thanking you on behalf of Team Hope, Caroline Murphy and Sandra Doble (co-ordinator).
Tenor, Dominic McGorian, will give a concert in Rathcoole Community Centre on Friday 4th January at 8pm. Tickets €15 are available at Paddy Byrne’s Newsagents and at the door on the night. Dominic will sing ‘O Holy Night’ and many favourite Christmas songs.

@pontifex: We do not possess the truth, the truth possesses us. Christ, who is the truth, takes us by the hand. @pontifex: At the end of the year, we pray that the Church, despite her shortcomings, may be increasingly recognizable as Christ’s dwelling place.
