2010 SCF Chartbook

This file contains time series charts using triennial SCF data covering the period 1989 to 2010. The income, asset, and liability variables included are ones that appeared in the tables in “Changes in U.S. Family Finances from 2007 to 20010: Evidence from the Survey of Consumer Finances” by Jesse Bricker, Arthur B. Kennickell, Kevin B. Moore, and John Sabelhaus Federal Reserve Bulletin (June 2012), pp. 1–80; variable definitions are given in that article. These variables are analyzed separately for all families and by a variety of characteristics, such as age and income groups. For each variable and classification group, the charts show the percent of families in the group who have the item and the median and mean amounts of holdings for those who have any. Users should be aware that unlike the tables published in the Bulletin article, the charts include estimates for cells with fewer than eleven observations, a sample size deemed insufficient for robust estimates (see tables to identify which variables and groups are affected). All dollar estimates are given in 2010 dollars.
