Another first for the MDX, the automatic humidity control system uses electronic sensors to measure humidity based on cabin conditions. In the event of window-fogging conditions, the MDX compensates even before fogging occurs by automatically activating the heat/defrost mode, adjusting the fan settings and turning the air conditioning on or off.

Optimal cabin comfort is at hand. From cold winter mornings to hot summer nights, the synchronized tri-zone automatic climate control with air-filtration system keeps the zones for the driver, front passenger and 2nd-row passenger all at the desired temperature. And for extra seasonal comfort and luxury, the MDX offers standard heated front seats and heated 2nd-row outboard seats.

Space is never an issue. With so many innovative cargo and seating configurations, everything from golf clubs to groceries will find a home in the MDX. Featuring a 50/50 split flat-folding 3rd-row bench seat and a 60/40 split folding 2nd-row seat – versatility abounds. And for securing the occasional larger item, there are four conveniently located cargo area tie-down anchors.

To keep your cabin clean and clutter-free, the MDX interior features a myriad of intelligent hidden-storage solutions. Up front there is a centre console with a spacious compartment to keep smaller items out of sight. This console also has a side storage compartment with a sliding cover. For hiding valuable items, there is a large lockable glove compartment and a concealed cargo well for storage in the back.

From the lightweight aluminum-alloy block and cylinder heads to the computer-controlled Multi-Point Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI®) system, the VTEC V-6 is compact, exceptionally fuel efficient and innovative to its spirited core.

MDX drivers will experience more exhilaration and more strength in numbers than ever before. Producing an awe-inspiring 300 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 270 lb.-ft. of purposeful torque at 4500 rpm, there’s a virtually endless supply of power to meet your driving demands. Plus, with the added benefit of the Drive-by-Wire Throttle System™ you can always count on smooth engine response and efficient power delivery. When it comes to pulling power, the MDX is ready, willing and more than capable, with a 5000 lb. towing capacity. What’s more, the MDX is a low-emission vehicle with a Tier 2 Bin 5 rating.

Before race-inspired VTEC engineering, engine tuning was a compromise between balancing low-end torque and high-end power. Utilizing two entirely different camshaft profiles enables VTEC engines to deliver amazingly responsive power across the full rpm range. At low speeds, the engine offers lower valve lift and a shorter cam profile opening, resulting in higher fuel velocities and greater low-end torque. But as your demand for speed increases, the engine switches to a cam profile with higher valve lift and longer opening duration, resulting in enhanced airflow and a huge boost in high-end rpm power.

Instead of following a traditional kilometreand-calendar maintenance schedule, the MDX instinctively monitors its own service schedule based on your driving habits. This advanced system takes into account engine revolutions, stop-and-go traffic experience and the frequency of short trips to determine when your next service visit should be. What’s more, the system also anticipates oil and filter changes, tire rotations and other general maintenance.

Track-tested and tuned at Nürburgring, one of the world’s most demanding racing circuits, the available Active Damper System complements the vehicle’s fully independent suspension, providing you with a superior feel for the road and an extra boost of driving confidence and exhilaration. Designed to improve overall response and stability, the system changes the suspension-damper fluid viscosity in a fraction of a second based on driving conditions. The result is an increased damping firmness in each wheel, a decrease in body roll and vehicle pitch, and an exceedingly responsive, sportier ride.

 he groundbreaking SH-AWD system T offers dramatically enhanced traction, control and acceleration in all weather or loose road conditions. Accelerate, and the system directs up to 70% of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels to, in turn, deliver full power to the ground.

SH-AWD delivers a remarkably neutral steering feel as the rear wheels help generate cornering power. Electronic sensors monitor the speed and tightness of the turn and automatically vary torque to the outside cornering rear wheel, resulting in enhanced stability and driver control.

Here, the advanced SH-AWD technology stands alone. The outside cornering wheel gets up to 100% of the rear-wheel torque and is accelerated to rotate faster than the inside cornering wheel, providing greater turning force and an incredibly stable corner line.

 H-AWD’s sophisticated electronic S controls automatically monitor road conditions and alternate torque from front to rear, as well as splitting rear-wheel torque from left to right. The result is a continuously smooth, stable ride, even in some of the worst road or weather conditions.

The available Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system allows you to set a time and distance interval between you and the car driving in front of you. During highway cruising simply engage the ACC, and the system will prompt you to choose a short, medium or long interval between you and the vehicle ahead. The system will then maintain the exact throttle speed and, if required, automatically apply moderate braking, to ensure a safe distance is maintained.

An Acura first, the available blind spot information system provides you with information about vehicles that are in, or about to enter into, your blind spot when you’re passing, being passed, merging or about to change lanes. Unlike some other systems that only detect objects at higher speeds, Acura uses a radar technology that detects objects travelling at speeds as low as ten kilometres per hour. An added measure of safety comes from the secondary alert indicators located in your Multi-Information Display (MID) area.

Another safety first for Acura is the available multi-view rear camera that allows you to change your rearview camera image before, and while, you reverse. Based on your situation, the camera can show you a high-resolution wide view, normal view and top-down view of what’s directly beneath your bumper. And for added perspective, the system can also display distance guidelines on your navigation screen to give you a better sense of the space behind your vehicle.

COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM™ (CMBS®) The MDX Elite Package model is now equipped with Acura’s innovative Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS). Powered by a radar transmitter located behind the vehicle’s front grille, this active safety system instinctively determines the distance and closing speed of the vehicle directly ahead of you. 1. RECOGNITION OF POSSIBLE COLLISION  If the closing speed exceeds a programmed threshold, the system warns the driver with audio and visual alerts.

2. SEAT BELTS TIGHTEN AND LIGHT BRAKING BEGINS If no braking or speed reduction is detected, the system will gently pull the driver’s seat belt and automatically begin light braking.

3. STRONG BRAKING

If all warnings have been ignored and the system determines an impact is unavoidable, strong braking is automatically applied to reduce the collision speed and mitigate the force of the collision.

REARVIEW/BACKUP CAMERAS*

The innovative Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE) body structure adopts a high-tensile, high-efficiency steel body structure to provide enhanced protection from a multi-directional collision. ACE reduces the concentrated force of a frontal impact by absorbing energy over a large area and dispersing it away from the occupants of the cabin. Additionally, ACE is designed to help reduce occupant injuries caused by misalignment in collisions between vehicles of different sizes.

The advanced Co-operative Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system with Traction Control will automatically detect and correct understeer or oversteer situations, sometimes before you’re even aware there’s a problem. The system intuitively analyzes the conditions and then reduces throttle and/or applies braking to individual wheels. Should a loss of traction occur on a slippery surface, Traction Control will help compensate to get you safely underway.

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps maintain steering control when braking hard on wet, slippery or loose surfaces, while Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) balances braking forces at each wheel to help compensate for cargo and passenger weight distribution inside the cabin. Plus, there is a Brake Assist feature that senses a panic stop and applies maximum braking power to help you stop quickly.

Maximum safety is achieved with six airbags designed to protect all occupants of the cabin. Depending on the point and force of impact, the MDX will deploy dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS) that activate at one of two rates depending on the degree of impact; front side airbags with the innovative passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) that will not release if the system detects a small-sized or improperly positioned passenger; and side curtain airbags with a state-of-the-art rollover sensor. Plus, for the driver and passenger, active head restraints provide excellent neck protection in case of rear impact.

Correct tire pressure is critical to safety, performance and fuel efficiency. Enter the MDX’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which continually monitors the air pressure in each tire. If pressure drops in any of your tires, a transponder attached to the wheel’s valve stem transmits the information to a receiver, and a warning appears on your instrument panel, indicating which tire requires attention.

Standard in the MDX is a backup camera with display in the rearview mirror. The MDX Technology and Elite Packages feature a multi-view rear camera in the navigation-system screen – a colour image of the area behind your vehicle is displayed conveniently on your screen. Even if the navigation system is turned off, the camera is activated automatically when you engage reverse.
