HOG HOLLER OCTOBER 2013

DIRECTOR’S CORNER September has come and gone and the rides turned out to be everything we had hoped for, and more. Moab was absolutely epic! The ride down was uneventful considering Salt Lake City traffic. Everybody did a fantastic job getting through the urban jungle with a stop at Timpanogos H.D. for lunch and souvenirs. Timing is everything and sometimes it’s good just to be lucky. With all the thunderstorms in the area we had about 20 miles of rain over the summit into Helper, and that was it for rain through the weekend. Though other riders had a much more exciting experience and from the mud on the roads, it was obvious again, that timing is everything. The ride on Sunday to Gateway was over a beautiful mountain range and river canyon. Gateway was gracious with giving us a discount for the auto museum along with having the curator and lead mechanic give us the tour. On the way back to Moab we found out Larry Martens used to live in that area and knew some back roads that were just mind-blowing in fun and scenery. (And Larry, you were right: you do ride really fast and don’t stop!) Monday we went into Arches Park in the morning then lunch at Moab Brewery. That primed everybody for a very memorable pool party at the motel. Let’s just say it was well attended, loud, and very enjoyable. Coming home on Tuesday, everything was going along great with wonderful weather. The road captain (me) made the cardinal mistake of not letting everyone know what the plan was. When we got to Spanish Forks, TJ, Kristy, Cole and Nicole got held up by traffic lights and since I hadn’t told them we were going to stop at In and Out in Layton, they motored on by trying to catch up. My bad. Sorry guys. On September 7th, we took a ride up to the top of Rock Creek to Diamond Field Jack’s campground. Always a fun ride. A great afternoon ride for everybody. Returned to Kimberly for lunch at Cactus Grill and then watched a few base jumpers at the Perrine Bridge Festival. On September 15th, the second LOH Progressive Dinner was held. We met at the dealership with Bruce trying out the Road Captain’s position for a fit. He led us over to the Jerome City Park where Clint and Stephanie had a wonderful salad. Then we hit the road for Jackpot where Bob and Marianne hosted lunch where all the ladies of Jackpot had spaghetti and garlic bread. Bruce and Shirly brought dessert with us so we could stay in Jackpot and partake in adult entertainment if so desired.

Coming up in October is the Carmela Winery ride on the 5th, which marks the end of our scheduled club rides, but does not mean the end of the riding season. Call a HOG friend and go for a ride! Dinner ride this month is in Buhl at Garibaldi’s. The can will be out for Turkey Trot donations once again, and hopefully some of you have given thought to being an officer. Enjoy riding in the lovely Idaho fall and hope to see you on the road. Big Bob

ACTIVITIES CORNER Seems like the summer just started and now it’s fall. Our riding calendar is almost empty. October brings us cooler weather and fall colors. Our final scheduled ride will be on Saturday, October 5th, going to Carmela Winery. We’ll meet at the dealership with kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. We’ll wind our way down to Glen’s Ferry for a fabulous meal. The general meeting will be on October 17th and will be at Garibaldi’s Mexican Restaurant in Buhl. It is where “That One Place” barbecue restaurant used to be. If it’s good weather we’ll still hold a ride from the dealership, if it’s bad weather, just meet at the restaurant, 6:30 p.m. That’s it folks, short and sweet!

L O H

L O H

Hello all you LOH ladies! Thank you for all for being so supportive of me these past two years. Whenever I have asked for ideas, help or advise, you have been there, making this job easy and so worthwhile. Our winter projects have kept us in touch. It has bee fun, but two years is enough,

Fortunately for all of us, Ann Eschliman has volunteered to run for LOH officer for the coming year. I know she will keep us busy. If you have ideas for projects or get togethers, let her know. Keep in mind, though, that if any of you would like to do this job, we do have an election process, os throw your HOG cap in the ring. Or just help Ann out. I know she will appreciate it.

Once again. Thank you, everyone. Shirly Barron

This will be held in the Kmart parking lot. Come out to help or just hang around and show off “your” costume (as long as it doesn’t scare the kiddos too much) And they have some

FROM YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER Hi all. I will have CD’s with pictures from all our rides and events available for purchase again this year. Here’s the breakdown: CD—This is just a CD with 2013 pictures, no sound, just pictures. If you want hard copy pictures you can take them to Costco, Walmart or where ever and have pictures made there. They are $4.00 each. MOVIE—This CD will be like the one last year only with 2013 pictures and it will be the one I play at the Christmas Party. Best part, these are FREE. I can’t charge because of the background music. DEADLINE—Yes there is a deadline this year, so get your orders in early. FIRST WEEK IN DECEMBER. So make sure your name and your order is on the signup sheet that will be passed around during the October and November meetins. Thank You , Nicole

EDITORS NOTES Man this year has flown by, and, sadly to say, the Slagels didn’t get much riding in. In fact, I had to claw my way through the cobwebs just to make sure the bikes were still n the garage. With Larrys bum knee, and my running all over the country for my “retirement” job, we were just not able to attend many rides or meetings. We sure have missed everyone and all the fun times. Now that the knee has been replaced with all kinds of metal and screws and plastic, hopefully he will be roadworthy by next spring. It seems this “knee thing” has become a HOG signature as we have had three replacements this year, Phyllis, Jacque and now Larry. Lets go with three times a charm and stop this and stay healthy. And speaking of “healthy” we have some members who have taken control of their lives and lost those nasty unwanted pounds they’ve been carrying around. Good for you all and you all look “Maw-vo-lous Dah link, Just maw-vo-lous” But again, stop it, because I keep finding every pound you lose and I take it home with me. And, once again I have to say, Sorry, for the lateness of the newsletter. Just not enough hours in the day for one person to get two peoples jobs done. Thanks for your patience. Gail
