DELVING DEEPER: BOWLING GREEN VS. NORTHERN ILLINOIS HUGER’S THOUGHTS ON EASTERN MICHIGAN “I was pleased with how our guys defended against Eastern Michigan. NIU is next for us and we will need the same defensive focus in order to come away with a victory. Offensively, we have a lot of guys who can step up and have a big night. However, defensively, it takes a full team effort. I’m excited for the opportunity we have to bounce back and get a MAC win in front of our home fans.”

This season marks the 50th anniversary of the 1968 BGSU team that appeared in the NCAA Tournament. Bowling Green recorded a season-high 57 rebounds in a win at Green Bay. Bowling Green shot a season-high 58.6 versus Lourdes. BG’s 109 points vs. Lake Erie were the most since BGSU scored 112 in a 112-75 win over Wilmington (Ohio) on Dec. 21, 2000. The Green Bay win came on Dec. 21 on the road by a score of 81-78, while the Lake Erie win was played at the Stroh Center. On that day (Nov. 20), BGSU won, 109-106. • Last season, the Orange and Brown went 2-0 in overtime games, picking up the victories in consecutive fashion. In double OT, BGSU beat Toledo, 104-100 on Feb. 4, 2016. Three days later on Feb. 7, 2016, the Falcons won at Kent State, 84-83. NEW YEAR, NEW FALCONS • Last season, within the first four games of conference play, Bowling Green played Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois consecutively. • The results were not good, as the Falcons lost to EMU, 81-53, before losing to NIU, 69-52. • This season, BGSU again plays both opponents within the first four games of MAC play, and in the same order, nonetheless. • The Falcons are already off to a better start, as BGSU hit the road to earn a 75-71 victory over the Eagles last Saturday (Jan. 6). Bowling Green will look to finish the deal Tuesday (Jan. 9) night. • However, unlike last season, where the pair of games marked the only meetings between the schools, the Falcons are set to play both Eastern Michigan (Feb. 10) and Northern Illinois (Jan. 23) two times in 2017-18. #DEEPFRYE • Sophomore guard Dylan Frye has taken his offensive game to another level in 2017-18. After averaging 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists as a freshman, Frye is averaging 13.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 rebounds in 2017-18. • Frye’s scoring averaging ranks 21st in the league. He sits 14th in three-point percentage (39.0), and 10th in three-pointers made per game (2.1). Frye has made multiple three-balls in 19-career games, including nine such games in 2017-18. • Frye scored a career-high 28 points at Norfolk State on Dec. 2. He went 9-for-13 from the floor, 5-for-7 from downtown, and 5-for-5 at the line. • With his five triples at Norfolk State, he’s now made a career-high five three-balls in three games this season. He entered the season with his career high for three-pointers in a game being four. • Frye now has three 20-plus point games in 2017-18, matching his total from his freshman season. To go along with his 28-point effort at Norfolk State, Frye scored 23 points versus South Dakota, and 20 points in a win over USC Upstate. DAEQWON BACK IN DOUBLE FIGURES • Freshman forward Daeqwon Plowden ended the non-conference schedule, and began the MAC season, with double-figure scoring games, marking the first time in his young career that he’s scored 10-plus points in two-consecutive games. • In the MAC opener versus Miami, Plowden scored a career-high 11 points. He also made a career-best two triples, as he went 4-for-7 on field goal attempts, including a 2-for-4 mark from downtown. • In the non-conference finale against Lourdes, Plowden made a career-high five field goals (5-for-7) on his way to a 10-point night. He also had four rebounds in the game. • Plowden now has three double-digit scoring games on the season. On Nov. 24 versus USC Upstate, he scored 10 points. • On the season, Plowden is shooting 46.8 percent from the floor, and averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds. CAN’T KEEP UP WITH KOCH • Freshman forward Derek Koch is averaging 6.8 points and 5.8 rebounds, while shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 80.6 percent from the charity stripe, which ranks 10th in the MAC. • Koch’s 5.8 rebound average ranks 20th in the conference. He also sits 10th in the league with 2.2 offensive rebounds per game. • Koch has notched multiple assists in six games this season, and is currently averaging 1.3 assists per contest. • The 6-foot-9 big man recorded 15 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal versus South Dakota. • Koch’s rebounding total in the contest was especially historic, as he became the first BGSU true freshman since 1999 to pull down 14-plus rebounds. On Jan. 23, 1999, Len Metala registered 16 rebounds at Anderson Arena in a contest versus Ohio. DOING GOOD WORK • Sophomore guard Ethan Good continues to be a tremendous representative of BGSU, both on and away from the court. • Good has one of the highest GPA’s in the MAC. The neuroscience major currently owns a 3.600 GPA. • In July, Good was placed on the 2017-18 Council of Student-Athletes Executive Committee. Only two other MAC student-athletes are on the committee. • Good is also a representative on BGSU’s We Are One Team (WA1T) group. The group uses sport as a forum to create a dialogue between stereotyped groups on campus, including (but not limited to), BGSU Athletics, minority groups, faculty, administration and the general student body.
