Dear Anne Arundel County Resident, The fall is such a wonderful time to get out and explore the many parks and affordable activities offered in Anne Arundel County. This Fall and Winter Program Guide showcases the abundance of programs and activities available, such as arts and crafts, fitness, aquatics, gymnastics, dance, sports, adaptive recreation and more. Enjoy the many fall festivals and activities in our parks including the Move More race series, the Health Fair, the popular growing Lifeline 100 Century Ride and Community one fun Howl-O-Ween Kinder Farm Park Fall Harvest Festival, and the dogg bring colder temperatures, Barkin’ Bash at Quiet Waters Park. Munchkins in Motion
Introduction to physical fitness activities, students will participate in activities on floor exercise mats, balance beam, bars (where available), vault and locomotor and creative movement activities. Ages 24–36 months with adult.
Tumble Tots
Students will learn basic tumbling skills as well as fundamentals on balance beam, bars (where available) and vault. Emphasis on improving locomotor skills, counting, following verbal directions and other developmentally appropriate activities. Ages 3–5.
Beginner Gymnastics
Students will learn sequential skill progressions on all Olympic events including vault, bars (where available), balance beam and floor exercise, as well as increasing their strength and flexibility. Ages 6 and up.
Advanced Beginner/Intermediate/ Advanced Gymnastics Focus is on complex beginning skills, while preparing for progression to the Intermediate and Advanced Levels. Intermediate and Advanced classes merge skills from the lower levels to form more difficult combinations, while continuing to learn higher-level skills. Ages 6 and up, with some previous gymnastics experience.

We are pleased to offer state-licensed Pre-K, Middle School Teen Group (MSTG) and School Age Child Care (SACC) programs located within many of the schools and one recreation center in Anne Arundel County. Our programs provide a safe, supportive environment that promotes social interaction, community integration, physical development and intellectual growth in accordance with the Maryland State Department of Education’s Office of Child Care and National After School Alliance Standards.

The before school program operates from 7:00am until the start of the school day (AM snack is included in your fee) and the after school program operates from the end of the school day until 6:00pm every day that school is in session for students (PM snack is included in your fee). Baby Doll Ballet This independent class is designed to familiarize young children who love to move with the dance class environment. Students will work on basic concepts such as balance, stretching, moving to music, and basic coordination skills through fun songs and dance games. Students get to bring their favorite doll or stuffed animal to help ease the separation from the parents.
Little Stars: Dance & Sing A perfect class for the star of your living room to come learn the basic introductory dance skills and some new songs.
Ballerina Princesses: Tiny Tutus (34) This class introduces dancers to the basics of ballet/creative movement through their favorite princess stories!
Ballerina Princesses Learn (and continue learning!) the basics of ballet/creative movement while getting lost in the worlds of your favorite Princesses. Feel free to dress up!
Ballerina Princesses: Prima Ballerinas (4-6) Students will continue dancing through the stories of their favorite princesses, but with a deeper focus on beginning ballet skills. Although this class is a progression from our Tiny Tutus class, no experience is needed!

Boys Move & Groove Let your creativity shine! We will be using our imaginations to explore creative movement and work on gross motor skills in a class just for boys.
Spin & Splash Included in the cost of this Introductory Ballet/ Creative Movement class is the admission for the student and 1 adult into the pool after class. The instructor is only responsible for the child during the actual class time. Parents are responsible for the children while in the pool. All aquatic center rules apply. Feel free to wear bathing suits to class.
Pre-Ballet A foundational ballet class for students that want something longer and more structured than our Ballerina Princess class but aren’t ready or old enough for Little Dancers I.
Little Tappers* An introduction to basics of tap and rhythm, and a chance for kids to make some noise!
Little Dancers I* The children will be introduced to dance through creative movement and ballet. As they engage their imaginations, they will develop balance, coordination, and basic movement skills.
Little Dancers II* Students will be introduced to the basic positions and steps of ballet and tap.
Beginner Ballet & Tap* An introduction to the basics of ballet and tap. No experience needed.
Advanced Beginner Tap & Ballet I* Dancers must have 1 year of experience.
Advanced Beginner Tap, Ballet, Jazz II* For students with at least 2 years of ballet and tap experience. No Jazz experience required.
Intermediate Tap, Ballet, Jazz I* For students with 4-7 years of experience. An emphasis will be placed on improving technique.
Intermediate Tap, Ballet, Jazz II* For students with 5-8 years of experience. An emphasis will be placed on improving technique and executing steps with a performance quality.
Advanced Tap, Ballet, Jazz I* For students with at least 7 years of training. Students will be expected to grasp difficult combinations quickly and strive to perform them with correct technique.

Students will be introduced to different improvisation and choreography methods and techniques. In the winter session, as a class, they will create their own dance for the recital.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, this class is for adults to explore the beauty of modern dance.
Baby Funk*
Get your groove on in this adult only Hip Hop class. Learn fun technique and combinations while getting some exercise and having a blast.
Teen Ballet* A beginner/intermediate level ballet class focusing on improving technique.
Francesca’s Intermediate/Advanced Ballet For serious students with at least 2 yrs of ballet experience. Class will consist of both ballet and some pointe work. There will be an emphasis on Balanchine Technique. Participants should wear a black leotard and pink tights. Both ballet slippers and pointe shoes will be needed.
Ballet/Tap/Jazz* Beginner/Intermediate ballet, tap, and jazz.
Teen Ballet/Tap/Jazz* Beginner/Intermediate ballet, tap, and jazz.
Pre-Pointe* By permission of the instructor. Students will focus on strengthening and building the muscles necessary to dance on pointe. As the year progresses, the instructor may recommend purchasing pointe shoes based on the individuals’ strength and level of readiness. Do not purchase pointe shoes until the instructor asks you to.
Pointe* By permission of the instructor. Students will continue focusing on strengthening and building the muscles used to dance on pointe. Must have taken pre-pointe before taking this class.
Modern I* No experience needed.
Modern II* Previous Modern experience required or by permission of the instructor.
Lyrical* Lyrical is a beautiful combination of Ballet, Modern, and Jazz. No experience is needed.
Introduction to Contemporary*
An introduction to hip hop for young dancers with age appropriate music and movements.
Baby Breakers* A continuation of Baby Funk but still an introduction to hip hop for boys and girls.
Hip Hop I* A beginner level hip hop class focusing on coordination and fun.
Hip Hop II* For students with previous dance experience.
Teen Hip Hop* A beginner/intermediate level hip hop class.
Advanced Hip Hop* For students with several years of dance, preferably hip hop experience. By permission of the instructor.
African Dance West African dance class is a class for everyone and offers a rich cultural heritage in the arts that has long been traditional sources of selfknowledge, community cohesion and spiritual communion. Learn traditional dances, rhythms and songs from Senegal and Guinea, West Africa.
Little Poms* An introduction to Pom Pom technique and routines.
Pom/Cheer*
Contemporary combines elements of Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Modern with musical and emotional extension. A strong focus will first be placed on mastering ballet technique and then progressing into a blend of contemporary and post-modern movement. Students will be pushed to explore their individual dance styles through musicality, partnering, and improvisation. Students must have at least 2 years of ballet experience.

Musical Theatre Performance Broadway Babies Fall – How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Our youngest performers will sing and dance their way through Dr. Seuss’ beloved tale! They will also share the stage with our more seasoned performers for the grand finale of our adaptation of The Polar Express! Students will perform onstage for friends and family in December.
Winter/Spring – The Ugly Duckling One of the ducklings looks quite a bit different from his darling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of selfdiscovery. Students from this production will also perform alongside students in our production of Charlotte’s Web! Students will perform onstage for their friends and family in April.
Musical Theatre Performance Fall – The Polar Express
Learn Pom Pom technique routines while focusing on increasing flexibility, strength, and stamina.
Dance Fitness for Kids This class is designed to incorporate fitness and aerobic movements in fun dances for kids. Students will dance to a variety of upbeat music and have fun while doing it!

Adult Hip Hop
Adult Adult Dance Fitness This class is designed for adults of all or no dance experience. Come move and groove in a fun relaxed environment. We will incorporate fitness and aerobic movements in fun dances and combinations to get your heart pumping. Whether you are looking to get fit or just have fun, this class is for you!
Students will journey to the North Pole and back in search of the spirit of the season. Along the way, they will sing, dance, and enjoy some hot chocolate in preparation for their final performance of this holiday classic! Students will perform onstage for friends and family in December.
Winter/Spring – Charlotte’s Web Wilbur, the pig, has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! His friend Charlotte, a spider, has a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman – she will create a “miracle.” Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever. This treasured tale explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship. Students will perform onstage for their friends and family in April.

Adaptive Programs We offer programs that are intended to provide integration opportunities, in a fun and non-competitive manner, to challenged youth and their peers. Volunteers over the age of 14 are encouraged to become peer coaches and participate in the programs. For additional information about appropriate programs or for volunteer information please contact Ryan Stewart at 410-222-7313. Supervision: 1:3 ratio unless otherwise noted. Nurse is not available during the school year programs for medication administration or medical protocols.

GENERAL ADMISSION
The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks promotes health and wellness in our community through a variety of quality programming. Our two public indoor swimming facilities, Arundel Olympic Swim Center and North Arundel Aquatic Center, offer private, semi-private and group classes to swimmers of all ages and abilities. Lanes are continuously available for lap and recreational swimming.

The facilities are handicap accessible and include fully equipped locker rooms with coin operated lockers. Youth 12 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult. Children must be age 3 and up, and completely toilet-trained to be permitted to swim. All persons using the pools must be toilet-trained; swim diapers are not permitted. Arundel Olympic Swim Center – Anne Arundel County’s largest public indoor swimming facility features a temperature controlled, indoor 50 meter by 25 yard swimming pool with adjacent wading pool, a poolside 17-person spa and two 1 meter diving boards. North Arundel Aquatic Center – The North Arundel Aquatic Center offers an 8-lane 25 yard competition pool and a leisure pool. The leisure pool is a zero depth entry pool with three 20 yard lap lanes and indoor water features. The water features include a 134 foot water slide, splash down area, water buckets, preschool water slide, vortex area and poolside spa for adults.
PASSES
Valid at Arundel Olympic Swim Center and North Arundel Aquatic Center Frequent User Passes (FUPs), 15-swim passes and Family 20-swim passes are available with online registration. FUPs are not prorated and do not cover the cost of water fitness classes. 15-swim passes and Family 20swim passes do not have an expiration date. The 15-swim passes are valid for water fitness drop-in at AOSC and NAAC. Family 20-swim passes must have a minimum of 1 adult and 1 child per visit and follow the 1 adult per 5 children ratio. All passes can be used for drop-in swimming at NAAC and AOSC. Purchase of FUPs, 15-swim passes, and Family 20-swim passes does not guarantee admittance to the water park; however, they can be used to acquire a ticket if space permits. The water exercise programs of the Arundel Olympic Swim Center are designed to be an effective component of an adult fitness program. Participants are encouraged to check with their physician before starting any water aerobics class. A challenging, low impact exercise program designed to use water resistance to increase endurance and tone muscles. Competitive Aquatics Masters Competitive Swimming
Swim team for adults 18 and older. Three days of training per week. Coaching improves stroke mechanics in any of the four competitive strokes. Youth Competitive Age Group Training
A year round competitive training program for youth, ages 6 to 18 years. Training begins in September, with one payment, listed below, for the season through May. Planting a Rain Garden at the Paw Paw Pavilion
9:00 am - 2:00 pm Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary We need volunteers to help us plant a rain garden at the Paw Paw Education Pavilion. This rain garden will serve to capture water from the pavilion roof while also serving as a demonstration site for education regarding water runoff. All the plants to be used are native and will be purchased with funds from an Unity Garden grant; Water and snacks will be provided, but please bring lunch if planning to stay for the entire event. Patuxent River Canoe Overnight
1:00 pm – 1:00 pm Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary Join Jug Bay staff and volunteers for a night under the stars. We will canoe the Patuxent River and its tributaries, camp at a riverside campsite, cook dinner and s’mores on an open fire and enjoy a relaxing night by the river. We provide canoes, guides, personal
flotation devices (PFD), paddles, hot dogs, buns, condiments, s’more ingredients and a light breakfast. You provide a side dish to accompany dinner, drinks, snacks, tent, sleeping bags and any other personal items. Please also bring the usual sun screen, sun glasses, hat, closed toed shoes that can get wet and an extra set of dry clothes. Ages 18+. Space is limited. $45 per person. Weather dependent. Registration Form – Forms can be downloaded from www.aacounty.org/recparks. Include the program number on your check or money order. Checks must be preprinted with the name and address of the person signing. If the current phone number is not printed on the check, please write the phone number on the front of the check. Checks/Money Order should be made payable to AACo Recreation & Parks. We reserve the right to cancel or alter programs that do not meet the registration requirements. We will charge an additional fee of $25 for all returned checks. Full payment is expected at time of registration. Disciplinary Actions - The Department has the authority to impose disciplinary sanctions for inappropriate/unsportsmanlike behavior and/or non-compliance with departmental policies, guidelines or standards. Disciplinary sanctions for individuals may include but not be limited to: prohibition to attend events, suspensions and expulsion. Refund Policy - All refund requests must be submitted in writing with the exception of cancelled programs. Full refunds are given only if a program is cancelled or there are extenuating circumstances prior to the start date of the program. Cancelled program refunds will be automatically processed for 100% refund. Written requests received prior to the start date, will forfeit 20% of the fee for the program or no more than $25 for each registration as an administrative fee. Any request received after the start date will be considered on a case by case basis and prorated. Refund requests for medical reasons shall be accompanied by a physician’s note. Request for refunds must be submitted no later than 30 days after the end of the program.
