36th Manning Innovation Awards Presented by Scotiabank: Recognizing Extraordinary Achievement When Dr. Gary Kobinger and Dr. Xianggou Qiu were presented with the 2017 Principal Award, all forks and knives were down. Attendees were captivated as Dr. Kobinger shared their story about the trials and tribulations faced in their endeavour to develop the lifesaving ZMapp™, an innovation that was not thought possible by the medical community. The room erupted in applause when they received their award, and attendees rose to their feet in unison for a standing ovation. At that moment, there wasn’t a person in the room who wasn’t proud to be Canadian. Extraordinary moments like this are what make our Awards Dinners so special. Thanks to the generosity of our presenting sponsor, Scotiabank, our 2017 Awards Dinner successfully honoured and celebrated the contributions of Canada’s most outstanding innovators. We take great pride in our commitment to shining a light on our homegrown innovation heroes, who dare to imagine and have the stamina to succeed. In addition to inspiring moments from our award winners, our Innovation Insights panel unveiled just how strong our culture of innovation is in Canada, a culture we are proud to be cultivating. Thanks to our major sponsors, Scotiabank, CGI, EY, Google, Pegasystems, and Emera. They, along with our other sponsors and our Dinner Committee made our 36th Manning Innovation Awards an outstanding success!

We captured videos of each of our 2017 Symposium speakers, who shared their pathways to innovation and encouraged aspiring innovators to get curious and stay creative. With the help of the friends of the Foundation and the two organizations representing 40 Canadian universities, we share these with young Canadians across the country, greatly extending our Innovation Symposium’s reach. This widespread initiative would not be possible without the support of Freedom Mobile. Thank you for your investment in Canadian innovation!
Elevating the Pride of our Nation: One Goal, Supported by Many It takes a village to build a culture of innovation, or, in our case, it takes 11 regional chapters across the country and dozens of volunteer members. Canada is a nation of innovators, and our chapters help discover and encourage those innovators in their regions. This grassroots network is 100% volunteer-run, by people who are passionate about innovation. The contribution of their time and talents has helped build the Foundation’s prestigious reputation. The Foundation greatly appreciates the diligent and knowledgeable contributions of all its volunteers. We are grateful to our Members, Chapter Chairs, Board of Trustees and Section Committee.

2017 Governor General’s Innovation Awards: Manning Laureates Selected for the Second Year in a Row We are one of 45 nominating partners of the Governor General’s Innovation Awards (GGIA). These Awards are given to those whose innovations are truly exceptional, transformative, and positive in their impact on quality of life in Canada. This year, we are proud to congratulate Manning Laureates, Patricia Lingley-Pottie and Patrick McGrath (Principal Award Winners, 2013) and Paul Santerre (Principal Award Winner, 2014), on receiving their Governor General’s Innovation Awards. Of the 12 awards given in the past two years, Manning Laureates have received five. It is a great honour for our Foundation and our Laureates to join with the Governor General in celebrating their accomplishments. Congratulations to all recipients!
