Letter from Leslie

Ringing in the New Year, it is important to recognize the meaning of this holiday. It is a time of new beginnings and fresh starts but also a time of reflection. I am excited for the 2018 year. We have planned some awesome new events for this year as well as new Trips & Tours. To stay up-to-date with all of our 2018 events, keep up with our quarterly newsletters or follow us on Facebook. I want to thank all of our volunteers! I appreciate all of your help with our past events in 2017. They would not have been such a grand success without you. If you have not volunteered at the Harman Center and would like to, come see me or give me a call. We are always looking for new volunteers to help with a wide variety of duties or events. Our goal for the Harman Center this year is to continue to offer quality programming to our senior community. We will continue to offer new programs each quarter. If you have any ideas for new programs, let me know. My office door is always open. I hope to continue to get to know more of our wonderful Harman Center participants. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this community and I am excited for what 2018 may bring. I want to wish you a Happy New Year and hope you have many positive aspects in the year to come! Sending lots of Hugs & Laughter, Leslie Richards Recreation Program Supervisor

Yakima Valley Senior Citizens, Inc. Letter from YVSC Inc President

Welcome 2018! I am very excited about this year, we have several new people on the board that have never

been involved with Senior Inc. before. I am looking forward to working with everyone this year. I want to thank Jim Perry for accepting the position of Vice President. Linda Lockwood from the Coffee Bar and Linda Dunkin from the Quilters were voted in as new Trustees. Gail Brown and Roberta Morgan were re-elected as Trustees. I truly believe that Senior Inc. is back on track and that you will see great things happening (not that they aren’t good now). I want to give a special thank you to Pat Anderson for all the years of service to Senior Inc., Pat has been a valuable asset on the Board and we hope to see her at our monthly meetings. I want to thank Leslie Richards for the salute to all Veterans on November 9th. There was a great turnout with the highlight being several WW2 Veterans who were in attendance. Being a veteran myself, it was a very special day and Leslie hopes to make this an annual event. Our Potato Feed in October was a huge success and with the help of our wonderful volunteers and the retirement facilities donating everything, we made over $1200. A special thank you to Bouchey Farms for the huge potatoes. We couldn’t have done it without all of you. Our door project is coming along and hopefully by the time you receive this Newsletter we will have a definite starting date to post. We had an OVERWHELMING response to our Breakfast with Santa held on December 2nd. In fact we almost ran out of food. Santa came down from the North Pole and really made the morning extra special for all the children. The activities that Leslie provided was also a big hit. The crew served 192 adults and 56 children under 5. This has been our best turnout ever and it is all because of the publicity provided by Leslie Richards. Lois Cruikshank, President Yakima Valley Senior Citizens, Inc Mission: YVSC, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization established to include, but not limited to the following goals. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

To represent all participants at the Center in addressing the opinions and concerns regarding the Centers programs and operations. To assist, encourage and promote the ongoing and future activities of the Center. To act in an advisory capacity to the Center and staff in planning Center activities and opera tions. To assist Center staff in developing programs to educate the community about aging and ser vices to seniors: and… To serve as advocates for the Center with all program participants and the community at large.
