Welcome to the 2014 ACBSP International Conference
We are honored to welcome you to Athens, Greece, and the 2014 ACBSP International Conference – “Partnering with Business for Student Success.” The leadership of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools (ACBSP), officers of the International Council of Business Schools and Programs Anthony Vasilis J. Jeremy Cripps (ACBSP Region 8), ACBSP staff and others Negbenebor Botopoulos Co-President President Co-President ACBSP Region 8 have designed this event to be an ACBSP ACBSP Region 8 educationally rich, unique global networking experience for you. We will explore ways in which we can prepare our students for the future in one of the oldest cities in the world. Conference events will take place at the Webster University — Athens Campus Cultural Center, just a short walk from the Electra Palace Hotel, our conference headquarters. The ACBSP Hospitality Desk is at the Electra Palace Hotel if you have any questions. This is the second time ACBSP has traveled to Europe for an International Conference. The inaugural 2013 International Conference was in Brussels last November. The focus remains on the presentation of scholarly papers, with a greater emphasis on the accreditation process this year. Concurrent sessions will be offered in four tracks: • Partnering with Business for Student Success • Academic Improvement • Accreditation • Focus on ACBSP Following the Conference, the full papers presented during the concurrent sessions will be included in the published Conference Journal of Proceedings, an interdisciplinary business journal of papers and presentations which have been accepted after double-blind peer review. We look forward to hearing from three dynamic keynote speakers: Giorgos Stylios, former Deputy Minister of Education for Greece; David Bakradze, Ambassador of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Serbia; and Basilio Petkidis, Chief Financial Officer for Mamidakis Brothers Group. The Welcome Desk is located in the lobby of the Electra Palace Hotel. ACBSP staff will be on hand to answer your questions. You will also receive a walking map with directions from the Electra Palace Hotel to the Webster University - Athens Campus Cultural Center.
Conference Registration
The Conference Registration table is located in the Webster University - Athens Campus Cultural Center Auditorium Foyer. Along with this conference program, you will receive: • A Moroccan leather Conference Bag that can be used as a briefcase following the International Conference, provided by Peregrine Academic Services. • A Portfolio, also made of Moroccan leather, provided by American University of Leadership (AUL). • A Registration Packet. Diana Hallerud, ACBSP Assistant Director of Accreditation, presented this training workshop at both the 2013 and 2014 Annual Conferences. Both events sold out. She has also conducted the workshop in Mongolia and India. This training geared toward: • An experienced evaluator seeking to update his/her skills; • Someone who has assisted in a campus self-study and is now interested in being a site team evaluator; • A site evaluator wanting to move into a mentor role; or • Someone just entering the accreditation process and seeking to learn what a site team looks for in a campus visit. Schedule This workshop will take place in the Webster Cultural Center Auditorium Tuesday and Wednesday. Join colleagues at a networking reception at the Cultural Center Rooftop Patio immediately following the conclusion of the Tuesday sessions. Lunch will be provided on Wednesday. On-site Registration Space is still available in this workshop, however separate registration is required on site. Anyone already registered for the International Conference may attend for a discounted rate of $100 USD. Exceptions can be made upon special request to attend only the training for $150. On-site registration will be in the Cultural Center Auditorium Foyer. Opening General Session Webster Cultural Center Auditorium Giorgos Stylios 9:00-10:30 Former Deputy Giorgos Stylios was born in Arta, Greece in 1971. Minister of Education for He graduated in 1994 from the University of Greece Thessaloniki where he studied Physics, Computer Engineering and Information Systems. In 2002 he completed his graduate studies at the City University of London in Technology & Information Systems. He is a professor in the business management department of the Technical Educational Institute of Ionian Islands, where he has also worked on various research and development programs. From 2008-2011 he served as Chair of the Department. In 2012 was elected Member of the Parliament in Arta. He is the former Deputy Minister of Education for Greece. Deputy Minister Stylios will share his experiences as a faculty member, department chair, Member of Parliament, and Deputy Minister of Education.

Keynote General Session Webster Cultural Center Auditorium 9:00-10:30 David Bakradze has served since April 2012 as Ambassador of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic and David Bakradze the Republic of Serbia. Prior to this service, he was Ambassador of Georgia to Senior Counselor of the Embassy of Georgia to the the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Serbia Republic of Finland and in various offices of the diplomatic service, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. His additional service to his native country is as in various offices in the National Security Council of Georgia. He is a graduate of Tbilisi State University with degrees in International Economic Relations and International Law. He is married and the father of three children. Ambassador Bakradze will share his views in education as a Member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and a Member of the Diplomatic Community in Greece and Serbia. Basilio Petkidis moved to Greece in 1996 and joined the Mamidakis Brothers Group as General Manager for Hermes, S.A. (Hotel and Tourism Basilio Petkidis Enterprise). In 1998 he was transferred to the Chief Financial Officer International Petroleum Trading Division as Mamidakis Chief Administrative and Financial Officer. Brothers Group Today he is the Chief Financial Officer for the group. He is a member of the Economic Chamber of Greece, a member of the Institute of Financial Management of the Hellenic Management Association (HMA), he has served as President of the Glyfada Chapter of AHEPA, and serves currently as Lieutenant Governor of the Board of AHEPA Hellas District 25. Academic Improvement.......................................................................................WCC Library An Approach to Organizational Ethnographic Research: Strategy, Methods and Processes John Russell, American University of Kuwait Qualitative methods ethnography, which has its roots in anthropology and interpretive sociology, is recognized by an increasing number of researchers as an appropriate strategy for studying organizations. The method is also seen as offering the potential for new and additional insights into accounting phenomena and has thus been adopted by researchers in management accounting. This presentation addresses issues arising from these perceived limitations by drawing on source literature to describe a symbolic interactionist approach to ethnography that is cognizant of the methodological implications of symbolic interactionism and provides a platform for integrating issues of power and ideology.

Accreditation.........................................................................................................WCC Library The Stakeholder-Centered Business Partnership Model for Student Success Alfred Miller, Fujairah Women’s College This study describes the competition in business models among higher education institutions, presenting a four-factor business model for higher education. The model consists of three interacting and overlapping factors: strategy, technology management and innovation, and e-commerce. A qualitative phenomenological argument provides that these three factors influence a fourth factor: stakeholder-centered philosophy. Munkhbayr B. is Vice President for Academic Affairs for the Institute of Finance and Economics of Ulaanbaatar (IFE), Mongolia. He is a candidate of ACCA at the FTMS Global University and holds a Master’s degree of Business Administration in Accounting from the Institute of Finance and Economics. He began teaching in 2001, and prior to his career as vice-president for academic affairs, he has been a dean of the Department of Accounting at the IFE since 2012. Since 2008, he has been executive director of Tets Consulting LLC. Peter Maher has worked for Webster University over the past 10 years as a tenured Professor of Computer Science, and for the past three years as the Associate Dean for Quality Assurance in the Walker School of Business and Technology. In his capacity of Associate Dean, he plays an integral role in planning the strategic direction of the Walker School. From an academic perspective he is responsible for ensuring the consistency of courses and programs across the global Webster network, managing assessment practices within the School, and maintaining the specialized accreditation for business and management programs by the ACBSP. Alfred Miller has been representing Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Fujairah Women’s College in the UAE, with ACBSP Region 8, the International Council of Business Schools and Programs since attending his first regional meeting in Vienna, 2010. Since May 2013, he is the ACBSP System Representative for all 17 campuses of HCT, the UAE’s largest federal university system. Alfred is leading the university on accreditation of the MBA program, where he also instructs and had led on the previous QA report.
