North Carolina State University and University of North Carolina Pembroke Chi Sigma Iota chapters are pleased to collaborate and bring you the 2nd annual North Carolina Chi Sigma Iota Professional Advocacy Summit! From the Opening, three powerful speakers will set the theme of “Advocacy 2017.” The goal of this summit is to bring the powerful voice of North Carolina counselors, counselor educators, and counseling students together as one, in order to illuminate the insight and direction needed to address the areas of professional, educational, program, social network and political advocacy. The afternoon session of the summit will provide an overview of the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies endorsed in 2015 (AMCD; ACA). The presenters will focus on the emergent concept areas of counseling and advocacy interventions and ecological perspectives; along with fluid client-and-counselor marginalized and privileged statuses. Implications for new-and-seasoned counselor training will be explored. The summit will also provide opportunities to network and discuss specific implications relating to career counseling, clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and college counseling. To have each counseling program represented as a cohesive voice at this summit is truly a representation of each chapter’s tireless effort to bring advocacy and awareness to all counselor education programs. Please plan to attend this great day of counseling advocacy!
