Seismic imaging of the K-Horizon below a geothermal field in mid-southern Tuscany T. Jusri1, R. Bertani2, I. Dini2, S. Buske1 1 Insitute of Geophysics and Geoinformatics, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Freiberg, Deutschland, 2 Enel Green Power, Geothermal Center of Excellence, Pisa, Italy Inhalt We present the result of our work on seismic imaging of the K-Horizon below a geothermal field in mid-southern Tuscany, Italy. The key processing steps included careful static corrections prior to the imaging and the used imaging technique itself. We performed the static corrections using velocities derived from first-arrival traveltime tomography. We show that this technique can reveal the key reflections more coherently than the widely used refraction statics technique. Additionally, we removed a significant number of noisy traces by an unusual technique which utilises particular energy-related seismic attributes. This technique assures that the critically noise-contaminated traces were eliminated effectively and efficiently prior to the imaging. In the imaging part, we tested the Kirchhoff Pre-stack Depth Migration and the Fresnel Volume Migration techniques. A more accurate image of the K-Horizon was obtained by incorporating the velocity function from a vertical seismic profiling measurement in the area into the migration velocity. Our imaging approach has resulted in a clear and reliable structural image of K-Horizon which provides important information for the characterization of the reservoir and the steering during drilling of a geothermal well in the field.
