Summer Family Adventures Nature Beyond Earth Friday, July 6 7-9 PM Activity #: 13119 Nature extends well beyond the Earth. Come join us for an astronomy night where we will learn how awe-inspiring the most distant aspects of nature can be. Learn how to navigate the night sky, how light pollution affects people and wildlife, and just how important our relationship with the night sky really is.
Sounds of Nature Saturday, July 7 7-9 PM Activity #: 13120 Join us after hours to listen for owls, amphibians, and insects and decode their different calls. We will also use a special bat detector to listen for the sounds of echolocation that we normally cannot hear. Bring a flashlight and water.

June 8 Wildlife Wonders - 13104 Have you ever wondered about the wildlife that call the Nature Center home? All across the Refuge you can spot larger animals such as white-tailed deer and coyotes to smaller ones such as cricket frogs and insects. We will discover some of the ways these and other wild critters live their daily lives, find food, seek shelter, and survive.

The Nature Center is home to a wide variety of birds. Stop by the marsh for a view of great egrets wading through the water in search of a meal. Look to the skies and watch a hawk soar. Learn how each bird group is specialized to survive in their habitat. children will even get to meet some of the Nature Center’s very own feathery residents.
June 22 Reptile Rendezvous - 13107 Cold-blooded, scaly, and slithery are just some of the words used to describe reptiles. They are often misunderstood despite how important they are to the environment. Join us for an exploration into what makes reptiles like snakes, turtles and alligators essential to local habitats. Be prepared for some up close and personal encounters with our very own education reptiles.

Trees serve a great purpose for people and wildlife. Many of our everyday objects originate from trees. Items such as chewing gum, paper, and much more. Wildlife use trees to find a place to build their homes, hide from danger, or search for a meal. Join us as we learn about the many trees that tower over the Refuge.

Intriguing Insects - 13109
What has six legs, compound eyes, three body parts and likes to dance? You guessed it, the honeybee. Other insects have intriguing ways of capturing prey and communicating with others. Join us and learn about the life cycles of local insects and the many adaptations. We may even get to do a waggle dance of our own!
Astonishing Arachnids - 13110

What do web-weaving spiders and glow in the dark scorpions have in common? They are part of the astonishing arachnid family. Arachnids are a lot different than insects and are extraordinarily diverse from one species to the next. Spiders can live in many different habitats such as the prairies, the forest, and near the water. Come along for an adventure as we seek out the amazing arachnids that live among us.
July 20 Food Network - 13111 Every form of wildlife have special interactions with each other beginning with a food web. Without such interaction, habitats and wildlife populations would be in trouble. Be prepared to use some of your knowledge from other camps and figure out how animals are connected to each other. After this adventure, you will have a bigger picture of how all forms of wildlife are important.

For mammals, being warm-blooded has lots of perks. Controlling their own body temperature is one and it allows them to live in cold regions. Come along for an adventure as we explore other traits of these furry members of the animal kingdom. Prepare yourself for some introductions from our very own educational animals .

Join us as we observe and learn about the incredible group of animals who use the sky to travel and view their unique adaptions for flight. June 25-28 Geology Time Travelers - 13113 Imagine you're at the beach taking a dip in the warm shallow water. Now imagine you're doing that right here
at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge. Many years ago, that would have been possible. Since that is no longer an option for us, we can travel back in time by studying the rocks, fossils, and much more in order to better understand what it was once like. Spend a week with us and become a Junior Geologist as we explore all the incredible natural history the Nature Center has to offer. Don't be afraid to get messy as we go rock hunting and digging in the dirt for ancient fossils along with lots of other rock-tastic activities.

Water is a precious resource this time of the year. Plants, animals, and humans depend on it daily to survive. Spend the week with us learning about some fascinating properties of water by exploring watersheds, seeing the water cycle in action, and meeting some of the inhabitants that call it home.
July 16-19 Outdoor Skill Builder - 13118 Start your summer of adventure and practice a variety of outdoor skills including canoeing, outdoor cooking, pitching a tent, and building a wildlife blind. We’ll experiment with historic techniques for survival in the outdoors and spend plenty of hands on time with nature.
Forces of Nature - 13114

Where is the safest place to be during a tornado? Do you know what causes earthquakes? How do fires and floods change the landscape? Calling all young earth scientists to join us this summer at the Nature Center as we explore how some of the greatest forces of nature have sculpted our state over time. Help us search for clues in the environment to answer these questions. We will learn how to stay safe when they happen and how they impact not only the landscape, but wildlife as well.
