Abstract In this paper, we propose a new iterative algorithm to approximate fixed points of total asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in CAT(0) spaces. We also provide two examples to illustrate the convergence behavior of the proposed algorithm and numerically compare the convergence of the proposed iteration scheme with the existing schemes. 1 Introduction and basic definitions Let (X, d) be a metric space. A geodesic path joining x ∈ X to y ∈ X (or, more briefly, a geodesic from x to y) is a mapping c : [, l] ⊆ R → X such that c() = x, c(l) = y and d(c(a), c(b)) = |a – b| for all a, b ∈ [, l]. It is easy to see that c is an isometry and d(x, y) = l. The image c([, l]) is called a geodesic (or metric) segment joining x and y and is denoted by [x, y] if it is unique. The metric space (X, d) is said to be a geodesic space if every two points of X are joined by a geodesic, and X is said to be uniquely geodesic if there is exactly one geodesic joining x and y for each x, y ∈ X. A subset C of X is said to be convex if C includes every geodesic segment joining any two of its point. A geodesic triangle (x , x , x ) in a geodesic metric space (X, d) consists of three points x , x , x ∈ X (the vertices of ) and a geodesic segment between each pair of vertices (the edges of ). A comparison triangle for the geodesic triangle (x , x , x ) in (X, d) is a triangle (x , x , x ) := (x , x , x ) in the Euclidean plane R such that dR (xi , xj ) = d(xi , xj ) for all i, j ∈ {, , }. Bridson and Haefliger [] have shown that such a triangle always exists. A geodesic space is called a CAT() space if all geodesic triangles of appropriate size satisfy the following CAT() comparison axiom: • Let  be a geodesic triangle in X and let  ⊆ R be a comparison triangle for . Then  is said to satisfy the CAT() inequality if for all x, y ∈  and all comparison points x, y ∈ , d(x, y) ≤ dR (x, y).

Complete CAT() spaces are often called Hadamard spaces (see []). If x, y , y are points in a CAT() space and if y is the midpoint of the segment [y , y ], which is a unique point with  d(y , y ) = d(y , y ) = d(y , y ), 

This inequality is called the (CN) inequality which due to Bruhat and Titz []. In fact (see [], p.), a geodesic metric space (X, d) is a CAT() space if and only if it satisfies the (CN) inequality. If (X, d) is a CAT() space and x, y ∈ X, then for each t ∈ [, ], there exists a unique point z ∈ [x, y] such that d(x, z) = td(x, y) and d(y, z) = ( – t)d(x, y).

A sequence {xn } in X is said to -converge to x ∈ X if and only if x is the unique asymptotic center of all subsequences of {xn }. In this case, we write -limn→∞ xn = x and x is called the -limit of {xn }. Let us recall some basics for nonlinear mappings on CAT() spaces. Definition . Let C be a nonempty subset of a CAT() space (X, d). A mapping T : C → C is said to be nonexpansive if d(Tx, Ty) ≤ d(x, y) for all x, y ∈ C.

Lemma . ([], Theorem .) Let C be a closed convex subset of a complete CAT() space (X, d) and T : C → C be a total asymptotically nonexpansive and uniformly L-Lipschitzian mapping. In , Panyanak [] gave the following existence result of fixed points for total asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in CAT() spaces which is also need in our main results. By using the iteration process (.) and Panyanak’s fixed point result (Theorem .), they proved -convergence and strong convergence theorems for total asymptotically nonexpansive mappings on CAT() spaces. They also compare the convergence of the modified Picard-Mann hybrid iteration process (.) with the modified Mann iteration process {xn }, which is given by x ∈ C, xn+ = ( – αn )xn ⊕ αn T n xn

The original idea of the modified Mann iteration process was introduced by Alber et al. []. Motivated by the above recorded studies, in this work, we introduce a new iterative algorithm called ‘modified Picard-Ishikawa hybrid’ to approximate fixed points of total asymptotically nonexpansive mappings on CAT() spaces. Our results are refinements and generalizations of many recent results from the current literature. We also provide two numerical examples to illustrate the convergence behavior of the proposed algorithm. Before we show our main results in the next section, let us recall some useful lemmas. 3 Numerical example In this section, using Example ., we will compare the convergence of the modified Picard-Ishikawa hybrid iteration process (.) with the modified Mann iteration process (.) and the modified Picard-Mann hybrid iteration process (.). Example . Let X := R be a usual metric space with the metric d, which is also a complete CAT() space, and C := [, ]. We see that C is a bounded closed convex subset of X. Recently, Kim [] showed that T is a continuous uniformly L-Lipschitzian and total asymptotically nonexpansive mapping with F(T) = {}. Also, he claimed that T is not Lipschitzian and then it is not an asymptotically nonexpansive mapping.

n Let αn := n+ and βn :=  for all n ∈ N. By using MATLAB, we computed the iterates of (.), (.), and (.) for two different initial points x = . and x = .. The numerical experiments of all iterations for approximating the fixed point  are given in Tables  and . Moreover, the convergence behavior of all iteration is shown in Figure . In Figures  and , we give the convergence behavior of the iterates of (.), (.), and (.) for some initial point under the different control conditions.

Next, we will give an example to show the nontrivial difference between the rate of convergence of the modified Picard-Ishikawa hybrid iteration process (.) with the modified Picard-Mann hybrid iteration process (.).
