A1 Coursebook Unit 3 Teacher’s notes Aim To practise the simple present tense To practise the vocabulary of family relationships To revise simple question forms with “be” Task To read information about a family and fill in a table To add own ideas to a table To introduce a family to a partner Preparation Make copies of the worksheets. You will need enough copies to give a copy of A to half the students in the class and a copy of B to the other half. Timing 40 minutes Procedure 1. Divide the class into group A and group B. Distribute the worksheets accordingly. 2. Ask students to find a partner in their group. 3. Pairs of students read the information in part 1 of their worksheets and work together to fill in as much missing information in the table in their own worksheet as they can. Tell them they will not find out everything. 4. If any pairs are having difficulty, encourage them to ask other pairs in their group. 5. Once all the information provided has been filled in, ask students to complete the table with their own ideas until the table is complete. 6. Now pair up students from different groups. One student from group A works with a student from group B. 7. Students ask and answer questions to complete the information about the other family in part 2 of their worksheets. 8. In a feedback round, compare the ideas different pairs had for the missing information.
Extension activity You might like to ask students to write a story - either in class or for homework - about the characters in one of the families.
