COURSE DESCRIPTION A detailed examination of the assessment, causes, and treatment of adult mental health disorders.
TEXTBOOK There is an optional textbook that will further your understanding of the course material: Nolen-Hoeksema, S. & Rector, N. (2011). Abnormal Psychology (2nd Canadian Edition). McGraw-Hill. All PowerPoint lectures from the course will be available online.
PREREQUISITE Third-year standing (a minimum of 60.0 credit hours) in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Addictions Counselling or Public Health program).
EVALUATION The two midterm exams and the final exam are based on class lectures and discussion. The exams will consist of multiple choice and short answer questions. Exam #1 is worth 30% of your mark. It will be 1 hour in length. Exam #2 is worth 30% of your mark. It will be 1 hour in length and will only cover lectures, discussions, and assigned readings since the last test. The Final Exam is worth 40% of your mark and will be administered during the final examination period. It will be 2 hours in length and will cover the entire course material. Missed tests are excused only for important medical, family, or religious reasons. A note from the appropriate authority is required, and a makeup test will normally be given.
