Architectural Drafting Using AutoCAD Adding Layouts

Template Development Objectives You will complete the following tasks during this stage of template development: Add and set up layouts. Add a border, title block, and revision history block. Add a viewport. The next stage of template development involves creating and adjusting paper space layouts. Templates often include a variety of drawing-specific layouts, depending on the purpose of the template. For example, an architectural template might contain a layout for a floor plan and a separate layout for an electrical plan. This allows you to prepare two separate drawings using a single file. The templates you create in this book include general-purpose layouts for D-size sheets. You will have to create additional layouts for specific applications and different sheet sizes.

US Customary Architectural Drafting Template Development Follow these steps to add a general-purpose layout to the Architectural-US and Arch-Template templates. The layout is set according to appropriate drafting standards and can be used as a basis for developing drawing-specific templates. Page setup options may vary depending on the available printer or plotter. 1. Access the Select File dialog box to open the Architectural-US template file. Remember, you are opening the existing template file using the OPEN tool, not creating a drawing based on a template file using the NEW tool. 2. Delete the default Layout2 layout. 3. Create a new architectural D-size sheet layout according to the following steps: A. Rename the default Layout1 tab to ARCH D-SIZE. B. Select the ARCH D-SIZE layout and access the Page Setup Manager. C. Modify the ARCH D-SIZE page setup according to the following settings: • Printer/Plotter: Select a printer or plotter that can plot an architectural D-size sheet • Paper size: Select the appropriate architectural D-size sheet (varies with printer or plotter) • Plot area: Layout • Plot origin: 0,0 • Plot scale: 1:1 (1 in = 1 unit) • Do not check Scale lineweights • Plot style table: monochrome.ctb • Do not check Display plot styles Copyright by Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc.

locate the origin exactly at the lower-left corner of the sheet. Follow these steps to add a border and title block to the layout: A. Delete the default floating viewport in the ARCH D-SIZE layout. B. Make the A-ANNO-TTBL layer current. C. Use the INSERT tool to insert the Architectural Title Block drawing file from the AutoCAD Template folder. D. Access the Page Setup Manager and modify the ARCH D-SIZE layout. Change the plot area to Extents and pick the Center the Plot check box. Follow these steps to add a single viewport to the layout: A. Make the A-ANNO-NPLT layer current. B. Create a single viewport with a lower-left corner at 1 1/8″,1 1/8″ and an upper-right corner at 2′-5″, 1′-9 7/8″. Resave and close the template file. Access the Select File dialog box to open the Arch-Template template file. Remember, you are opening the existing template file using the OPEN tool, not creating a drawing based on a template file using the NEW tool. Open DesignCenter. Drag and drop the ARCH D-SIZE layout from the Architectural-US template file into the Arch-Template template file. Resave and close the template file.

Metric Architectural Drafting Template Development Follow these steps to add a general-purpose layout to the Architectural-Metric template. The layout is set according to appropriate drafting standards and can be used as a basis for developing drawing-specific templates. Page setup options may vary depending on the available printer or plotter. 1. Access the Select File dialog box to open the Architectural-Metric template file. Remember, you are opening the existing template file using the OPEN tool, not creating a drawing based on a template file using the NEW tool. 2. Delete the default Layout2 layout. 3. Create a new A1-size sheet layout according to the following steps: A. Rename the default Layout1 tab to A1-SIZE. B. Select the A1-SIZE layout and access the Page Setup Manager. C. Modify the A1-SIZE page setup according to the following settings: • Printer/Plotter: Select a printer or plotter that can plot an A1-size sheet • Paper size: Select the appropriate A1-size sheet (varies with printer or plotter) • Plot area: Layout • Plot origin: 0,0 • Plot scale: 1:1 (1 mm = 1 unit) • Do not check Scale lineweights • Plot style table: monochrome.ctb
