Aging effect on strategy combination: Sequential modulations of rule-verification strategies Thomas Hinault and Patrick Lemaire Aix-Marseille University & CNRS, LPC UMR 7290 [email protected] [email protected]

CONTEXT & GOALS • Strategy combination: Better performance for problems violating both five- and parity-rules (Hinault et al., in revision). • Aging effect on strategy selection and execution (Lemaire, 2010). • Sequential modulations of poorer-strategy effects (Lemaire & Hinault, 2013). Here, we investigated Aging effect on strategy combination, and its sequential modulations.

METHOD • Multiplication problem (25 young adults and 25 older adults)  4 x 68 = 273 True ? False ? • 2 rule-checking strategies: - Parity-rule: 4 x 37 = 148 - Five-rule: 5 x 32 = 160 • 4 trial types: No-Rule Violation
