t - FiE.7 3) Acrual Operation Fig. 5 is a cÍcuit diagram of the high fr€qu€ncy amplifier stase only of a circuit which is actually used. CondenserCl and varactor diode Dl in the diagram are equivalent to the variable con, denser of an ordinary FM fÍont end. As can be understoodfrom Fig. 3, Dl variesthe capacitance in a 4 to 16 PF ranSeby means oí inversebias voltage. This capacitance and condenser Cl combined caFcitance forÍns the Íesonancecircuit with coil LA. Consequently,it is satisfactory if at low.esonanceíÍ€quency, the voltagesupplied to the varactoÍ diode d€clines, and at hid resonanc€ frequency, the voltage supplied to th€ varactor diod€ increas€s. This voltage variation method with variabl€ resistor, êtc., op€rates in the sam€ way as a regulaÍ variablecordenser.

This method uses a local oscillatorcircuit and frequencymixercircuit, andbiasvoltageis applied to the varactordiode for stariooselectionand is calleda varactortuneÍ. Pleas€ r€ferto the scheÍ,atic diagranfoi actuaicircuitdrawing.

TUNING SYSTEM

I. VARACTOR TUNER A varactortuneris th€ lunersystemin whichvaráctor diodejunctioncapacitance is variedby meansof the inversebias value appliedto the diode for station selection. By employinga varactordiode.tuning which is samea! ordinary vaÍiablecondenseÍs),stem by cán bê mad€without usinga variablecondenser changing controlvoltageonly. l) Features a) When used in an FM tuner, th€ front end can be made small€rthan \{hen compaÍedwith a variablecondenser. b) Station selector butaon positioningis not limited.

c) Slation sel€ctionby remote control is possible. d) Ideal voltagecan be set for a certain reception frequency beforehand, and preset tuning can b€ efect€d by successively switching the e) If control voltsg€ sweep is at ideal speed, automatictuning (seàÍchtuning) is posiblePow€r consumption is about the same as a 0 variablecondenseÍsystem.

2. PRESET TUNING SYSTEM l) PresetStationSelecrion For presetíatio. selection, thereis a mechanical and an eleclricalmerhod. Theseare memory equipme.t and seiection equipment enabling desÍedstations€lectionbeforehand and selecting thes€ pre-setsrationsby simply d€pressing the respective switches. An ordinarycar redio, etc. utilizesa mechanical station selection system wherein mechanical variationis by mea.sof a variablecondenser or posilioningofa dustcorcinsidea coil. Model AA,1010L utilizes an electricalsrálion selectionsystemand employsthe varacrortuner explained in a previousitem. 2) An exampleof a stllion selectionsystememploy" ing a varactortuneris shownin Fig.6. For skrion selection, push switchesare used for s€lecuon of voltagesupplyto the varactortun€r. However, in the AA.10I0L, thesestation selectionpush switchesare puÍe electronicsystemsensi.touch

3) Sensi-touchEmployedPresetStation Selection SystemOperation The circult shownin Fig. 7 is th€ conlrolvoltage genêratinS pres€lvolumeand sensi-touch circuir. Fig. 8 sho'rrsthe insideof circuit sensi-touch IC FPCI009Cwhich includethe 4 channelcircuitry. Terminals14 thÍou8h 17 arethe input teminals; .ermina@ ls , @, @,-a @ arêthestation selectionoutput terminals;and terminalsO , @ , @ , and O arerhepilot outpul terminals. When channêl I sensorelectrodeis louched, voltageis snppliedto the IC as rhe input signal throughfmger(body) resistance at t€rminal @ . Then, the impedanceis loweredat IC station selectoroutput terminal @ and current flows ai shownby the arrowmarksin Fig. 9. Consequenlly, because the supplyvoltage10 the varactor runer diode is changedby the dividingratio of Rb and Rc, station selectionis possibleby m€ansof settingthe pr€setvolumesbeforehand accoÍdrng to the deriÍedbroadcarltÍequen.res.
