All Out

A person who is sold out for Jesus Christ will love what Jesus loves. Ephesians 5:25 says, “Christ loved the church and gave His life for it.” If Jesus loved the church enough to give His life for it, we should love the church enough to give our lives to it. e’ll look at how God If you are “all in” for Christ, you will want to go “all out” for His church! hurch! W We’ll wants our church to function, what we should value, and how you can pray for your church! hurch! There are many passages in the B ook of Acts that talk about how the church grew (see Acts 1:15; 2:41; 2:47; 4:4; 5:14; 5:28; 6:1; 6:7; 20:21). Within the first 20 years of Christianity, they estimate that the number of disciples in the Church of Jerusalem grew from 120 to 100,000. How do you get New Testament growth? The church must use New Testament ______________________________. Here is a prayer guide for how you can pray for your church (based on our core values and Next Steps).
1. On SUNDAY – Pray for the _______________ of our church.
Read 1 Corinthians 9:19-‐23. For the sake of the Gospel, Paul was willing to do anything, go anywhere, or pay any price to win anyone he could to Jesus Christ. The ministry of FBR exists primarily for those who _____________ _____________ __________! We are going to do everything we can to reach as many as we can for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That’s why we offer three different types of worship services all throughout the day on Sunday! When Paul was around the Jews, he says, “I became l ike one of the Jews.” Not to appease them or to affirm them – but to remove any barriers and open a door of opportunity to c onnect with them so that he might bring the gospel to them. Paul became all things to all men – not in order to make the legalists happy, not because he was compromising a conviction, but because he wanted to identify with those whom he was trying to reach so that they would give him a hearing for the gospel. At FBR, we will be a church that values diversity and ethnicity. We will be a church for ______________ generation with an intentional focus on the __________________ generation. The Millennial Generation [under 30] is the largest generation of people in US history. Yet only 2 out of 10 of them think that church attendance is important. For the sake of this generation – our children and grandchildren – we must be intentional about doing whatever we can to win them to Christ! If we are not intentional about reaching out, the gravitational pull of FBR will always be toward the _________________, not the outsiders.
2. MONDAY – Pray for powerful _____________ experiences
We want the presence of God to be the main attraction at our church. We want our people to be prepared and inspired to experience God in ways we never have before, yearning to see God in a new way each time we gather. Pray for our worship and music ministries. Did you know that you will praise the Lord in direct proportion to what you _______________ of Him? Our word “worship” is really related to word “worth.” Worship is ascribing worth to something. How you worshipped God today is an indication of how much you think He is worth. Genuine praise and worship benefits us as well. When y ou begin to praise, G od begins to refresh. Isaiah 61:3, “Put on the garment o f praise in the spirit of h eaviness.” We cannot both _________________ and ________________ at the same time! Howard Hendricks said, “The church doesn’t need more workers; it needs more worshippers.” Too many Christians arrive at a worship service preoccupied by their problems and focused on what they can get out of the service instead of what they can give to it. But when people focus on God and give Him glory, He comes and makes the church a place of power.
3. TUESDAY – Pray for every member to be in an ______ ________
Acts 2:42, “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, and to fellowship and to sharing in meals…and to prayer.” Acts 5:42, “They met day a fter day, in the temple courts and house to h ouse.” The early church met in both l arge group gatherings and small group fellowships. This is a biblical strategy and structure for the church – not just then, but for today.
The goal of FBR Groups is __________________ and ____________________ growth. There are five avenues of FBR Groups to choose from. LifeStudies meet on Sunday mornings on campus.
LifeGroups are discussion-‐based groups that meet in homes during the week. LifeLines are support groups. LifeShare groups are hobby/interest based (meet in summer). LifeCoach is small personal discipleship and mentoring groups ( coming this fall). We want to build c ommunity. We don’t want just fans of FBR; we want family. We don’t want just attendance; we want attachment. We don’t just want people to go; we want people to grow.
4. WEDNESDAY – Pray for the __________________ of our people
Giving is not something that you do; it’s something that you are. It’s not so much an act as it is an attitude. Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). The early church in Acts were giving far beyond just a 10% tithe. Read also 2 Corinthians 9:6-‐8. The word for “cheerful” giver is only used this one time in the Bible. Hilaro is where we get our English word hilarious. It literally reads, “for the hilarious giver, God prizes.” God is not just looking at the money; He’s looking at the motive. God isn’t impressed with how much you make but how much you give. When you give, God _____________; when you withhold, God _______________________.
5. THURSDAY – Pray for the ______________ ___________ of every member.
We want to create a culture at FBR where prayer is the priority. Our goal is that every member is spending daily time with God as well and growing “between Sundays.” Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer…” I want our church to be like this first century church in the Book of Acts where God was magnified and was exploding with power on the scene of the c hurch. The ____________________ of God on our church will be in direct proportion to our commitment to prayer. The same is also true for your personal life. Acts 4:31 – “And when they had prayed the place where they were assembled shook and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit a nd spoke the Word of God with boldness.”
6. FRIDAY – Pray for ______________ in ministry and on mission
Romans 12:5, “So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to a ll the others.” Being a “member” of the church was considered the same thing as being a “vital organ” of a body. The church is not a building; it’s a body. The church is not an organization; it’s an organism. The difference between being a church attender and being a church member is ________________________. Attenders are spectators. Members are participants. Attenders are consumers. Members are contributors. The Christian life is more than just a c ommitment to Christ. It’s a commitment to other Christians. You become a Christian by c ommitting yourself to Christ, but you become a church member by committing yourself to the church and to others. QUESTION: What kind of church would my church ______ if every member were just l ike _______?
7. SATURDAY – Pray that we will be a church of disciples ___________ _________________
We find in the Book of Acts that the church started out with 120 disciples, but within a few days, they had multiplied to a few thousand. Within a few y ears, they had multiplied to tens of thousands. We must face a convicting question: If we’re not _________________ disciples, are we _________________ disciples? A disciple is someone who also makes disciples. Jesus commanded us to do it in the great commission, but how many of us are actually doing what He said? Our LifeCoach discipleship program (coming this fall) will teach you how to do that. Psychologists say that in order for a person to be happy, they need three things: 1. Something to _______________ in 2. Someone to ______________. 3. A cause to _________________. Jesus and His Church fulfill all three o f those things!
