INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE
CHILD PROTECTION CENTERS SAVE MONEY The service delivery model saves court, child protection, and investigative dollars averaging $1,000 per child abuse case compared to communities without a Child Protection Center.
AGES OF CHILDREN
The Allen Child Protection Center (ACPC), an accredited Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), provides immediate assistance for children or dependent adults who may be victims of abuse, or have witnessed a violent crime. The ACPC uses a multi-disciplinary team approach and works closely with the Department of Human Services and law enforcement. The center provides forensic interviews, medical examinations, mental health counseling and family advocacy services.

ALLEN CPC IS GROWING
IN 2016, ACPC hired a Mental Health Counselor to provide
evidence-based mental health treatment to our vulnerable, and often traumatized, children and their non-offending caregivers. To provide the best care for children who have experienced trauma, there were over 350 mental health appointments provided at ACPC. We partner with additional evidence-based mental health providers around our service area.
HOW ARE WE FUNDED? The Allen Child Protection Center, along with four other accredited Children’s Advocacy Centers, receive a yearly grant from the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH). Funds are split equally between accredited centers. And remaining funds are split between centers based upon their volume. This formula has not been updated in several years and does not reflect the growing number of children served by Iowa Children’s Advocacy Centers over the last several years. The IDPH grant only covers approximately 30% of ACPC’s annual budget.
IN 2017
, ACPC opened a satellite location one day per week in Cerro Gordo County to provide the same services for families without requiring them to drive sometimes two hours to the Black Hawk County location.
Allen CPC is the first CPC to open a satellite location in IOWA.
In addition to the IDPH grant, ACPC has received grants and donations from private donors as well as local community agencies such as the Cedar Valley United Way, Max and Helen Guernsey Charitable Foundation, Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office, Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, and others.
