ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY RESPONDS TO RACIST REMARKS ISSUED BY PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP
CHICAGO, IL (January 12, 2018) – Dr. Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, International
President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, expressed dismay at the comments by President Donald Trump describing Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as shitholes. She also called on him to apologize for his poor choice of words. Such a characterization of the countries is divisive, unfair and wholly inaccurate, Wilson said. “These nations are our allies and friends, and we must recognize them in that light,” Wilson said. “That type of remark undermines the dignity of the office of the presidency and sullies the nation’s reputation.” Wilson noted that the remark is ill-advised and ill-timed on the eighth-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that killed thousands of people in Haiti and just days ahead of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
