Dear Friends, Thank you for your ongoing support for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Our mission to create a more just and hopeful world would not be possible without the generosity of the individuals listed in this report. Whether you have given your time, money, or prayers to this organization, you have been crucial to our work offering vital service within poor communities and forming leaders committed to faith in action. This report is an ongoing reminder of the power of community in a divisive time. Rather than simply a collection of individual supporters, this report is proof that a group of people, committed to the values of simple living, social justice, community, and spirituality, can sustain a movement. Together, we placed 274 volunteers to take on some of the world’s most difficult challenges across 48 cities in seven countries. Together, we transformed a group of passionate young leaders into lifelong advocates for justice. And together, we furthered St. Ignatius’ vision for a world where generations of young people answer the call to “go forth and set the world on fire.” Thank you for sustaining our mission and the hundreds of communities who benefit from it. With your support, we look forward to another year of pursuing meaningful spiritual growth and social change across the world, for the greater glory of God.

My experience as a campus minister, teacher, and retreat leader at St. John’s College High School in Belize City has brought me great joy this year. To accompany students who get lost in their curiosities, openness, and innocence is a pure gift. It is so rewarding to watch young minds grow and change with new ideas and concepts, and my mind continues to do the same as I field their questions about the faith. In my work, I have also received professional development and have learned about high-level school functions and decision making. I am currently writing a proposal for a 2020 strategic plan with ideas for growth as an institution. In writing this proposal, I hope to have a long-term impact on staff formation, new buildings, and student scholarships, among other new initiatives. Indeed, this experience at SJC has deepened my love for education and its potential to both strengthen and shape communities. When I see students beside me in their uniforms, I know I wouldn’t rather be anywhere else. Belize City and SJC have become a real home, and it’s wonderful to be present here. As Pedro Arrupe advises, “Fall in Love, Stay in Love.” As this term of service unfolds, I look forward to seeing how it “decides everything.”
