Seraphic Fire’s sound is unlike any other

What an awe-inspiring journey this season has been. From intimate 13-voice a cappella concerts to national appearances presenting some of the world’s most evocative choral works, Seraphic Fire made a remarkable impact on the national arts community. We, the artists, thank you for your loyalty, friendship, and belief in this organization. My very best, Patrick Dupré Quigley Founder & Artistic Director

During my first season as Chair of Seraphic Fire’s Board of Directors, I have been touched by the dedication and support from each committed Director. The unparalleled art that draws us each to Seraphic Fire would not be possible without the expertise of our incredible staff and Board, and impassioned support of our subscribers, partners, donors, and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who continues to make the music we love possible. Sincerely, Alaina Fotiu-Wojtowicz Chair, Board of Directors

Being with this organization for two years now, I have developed a deep appreciation for the art form, and the vision for which I am tasked with stewarding. It is because of this that we are turning our focus towards long-term sustainability so that the concerts you have come to love will be enjoyed by generations to come. With appreciation, Rhett M. Del Campo Executive Director 4

The collaboration of two premier South Florida cultural institutions—the New World Symphony and Seraphic Fire—culminated in a gripping performance featuring Steve Reich’s pulsing work, The Desert Music. Based on poetry by William Carlos Williams, this groundbreaking minimalist masterpiece fused varied harmonies, counterpoint, and sung texts. The concert also included György Ligeti’s Adventures and New Adventures, which employed a humorous use of rubber bands, wooden furniture, paper bags, and the smashing of plates.

OUTREACH For the first time in its history, Seraphic Fire invited more than 1,000 students to specially curated concerts that served as “guided tours” of the music performed by the professional ensemble. Artistic & Education Programs

$966,828 Arts funding from the State of Florida was cut by 50% in the 2015-2016 season, resulting in a negative budget impact of $74,000 to Seraphic Fire. To offset the resulting budget gap, Seraphic Fire reduced non-artistic costs by $45,000 over the course of the season, and used cash funds from its reserve to bridge the remaining $49,000 gap.

Seraphic Fire’s Youth Education Initiative, led by Associate Conductor and Director of Education James K. Bass, offered a unique and personalized introduction to the art of singing to elementary school students in economically disadvantaged communities across Miami-Dade County. Each month, world-class artists from the professional ensemble visited different schools to engage students in dynamic presentations that taught music theory fundamentals and vocal pedagogy.
