AP EUROPEAN HISTORY SUMMER ASSIGNMENT MR. MARSH DUE: August 23, 2013 To better prepare for the 2013-2014 year, students taking AP European History are being asked to read Poland by James Michener (ISBN #0-449-20587-8) this summer. (In order to save money, I highly recommend you purchase it used or get a copy from previous European History students.) The book discusses three fictional families within the historical setting of Poland from medieval times to reasonably present. It provides you with an insight into some of the history of this often misunderstood region as well as why it continued to be a battlefield even well into the 20th century. Your assignment is two parts: First, write a short history of one of the families in the book within the historical context presented. This summary should be approximately 3 pages (if possible typed, 12 point single spaced). Finally you should write a short critique of the book. What is your reaction to the book? What did you find out about Poland specifically that you did not know? Did you enjoy reading the book? This reaction need not be more than a page. Please see me personally before school ends if this presents some difficulty or you don’t completely understand the assignment. Regrettably, I am not available on social media for your access, however, should you require my attentions, please feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected] and I will endeavor to get back with you. However, as I do not access my school account from home and I am frequently either out of town or working, it may take a few days to respond. Grading for this assignment is based on 100 points total and will be listed under the category “assignments” on e-sembler. AGAIN, THIS IS DUE ON AUGUST 23, 2013. Should it come in late, points will be deducted pursuant to the course syllabus. Oh, and while I have your attention, so that you can purchase items over the summer for class: Your “supply list” for this class is a sharp, rational mind, something with which to write and something upon which to write. You are in charge of your own organization and note taking as it were. See you in August!
