APPLICATION FORM Application Deadline: Friday, September 6, 2013 Young Composers Project will offer 2 divisions starting Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 1. Beginning-Intermediate 10:00-12:00 Saturday Classes (including weekly lessons) 2. Intermediate-Advanced 11:00-1:00 Saturday Classes (including weekly lessons) Class Schedule: Sept. 21/28, Oct. 12/26, Nov. 9/23, Dec. 7/21, Jan 11, (Rehearsals Jan. Curriculum: Composition, notation, sight singing, melodic and rhythmic dictation, theory, harmony, counterpoint, text setting, music history, public speaking, creating a resume, guest musicians and composers, instrument background, conducting, notation software, sound recording, Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Live from the Met and Sierra Streams Institute field trips, rehearsals and performances. Expectations: Students will be expected to write 2 compositions during the course (1 for voice and one instrument of choice, focusing on setting a text and performed January 25 and 1 chamber work, performed by professional musicians at MIM’s SummerFest in June. *Please note: YCP will be engaged in multifaceted project designed to explore the synergy of science and art by creating a collaborative partnership between Sierra Streams Institute and Music in the Mountains with support from the Volgenau Foundation. The objective is to teach YCP students about the life cycle of the Yuba River salmon, their habitat, history and environmental stewardship. The students will use these experiences as a genesis/theme, to create original compositions. This process will be documented by a professional video crew but also encouraging students to learn about and help shoot video. This new music will be performed live to projected video at Summerfest 2014. This event will be filmed and edited into existing footage creating ½ hour documentary film of the entire project utilizing both student and professional video encompassing the salmon and their habitat curriculum, composing music to video, working and rehearsing and performing with orchestra musicians.
