A frequent contributor to the Journal of Business Ethics, Professor Thomas LiPing Tang is best known for his research on the meaning of money, love of money, and Monetary Intelligence. His research bridges the gap between prospect theory and behavioral ethics, involving money attitude and business ethics: dishonesty, temptation, and cheating on the dark side and satisfaction and happiness on the bright side, and many other constructs. A native of Haining, Zhejiang, China, he was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He received his B.S. degree (1971) in Psychology from Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), the number one private university in Taiwan. He earned his M.A. (1977) and Ph.D. degrees (1981) in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He has taught Psychology at National Taiwan University and at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Currently, he is a Full Professor of Management in the Department of Management, at Jennings A. Jones College of Business, MTSU. published more than 160 journal articles and abstracts in top business, management, and psychology journals, including Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Human Relations, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Management and Organization Review, and other journals. He has presented more than 240 papers in conferences and numerous seminars at different universities around the world. Since 2006, Dr. Tang has served on the editorial review board of Journal of Business Ethics. In addition, he has served as an Associate Editor (AE) for Applied Psychology: An International Review and Guest AE for European Journal of Information Systems and on eight additional editorial boards and as an ad hoc reviewer for 62 journals. At MTSU, he received Outstanding Research Awards twice—in 1991 for his work in psychology and in 1999 for his research in management, Distinguished International Service Award (1999), Outstanding Faculty Member in Jones College of Business (2008), and Outstanding Career Achievement Award (2008). He also received the Best Reviewer Award from the International Management Division and the Social Issues in Management Division of the Academy of Management (2003, 2007, 2009, and 2011) and Emerald Publishing (2015). Prof. Tang became as a Fellow of Economic Psychology, the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) at the International Congress of Applied Psychology (ICAP) on July 13th, 2014, in Paris, France. On October 17, 2015, Dr. Tang and others received the Distinguished Alumni Award from President Samuel C. K. Chang (張光正校長) of CYCU and delivered a keynote speech at the university’s 60th anniversary celebration. He also receive an Outstanding Alumnus Award from Prof. Angela KuYuan Tzeng (鄭谷苑老師), Chair of Psychology Department, at its 50th anniversary celebration. He was humbled by these honors and would like to thank Prof. Chia Yu Liu (劉家煜老師), founding Chair of the Psychology Department, Prof. Angela KuYuan Tzeng, President Samuel C. K. Chang, and his wife Theresa LiNa Tang (張麗娜女士) for their support, and his parents, late Prof. & Mrs. Kuan Ying Tang (湯冠英老師, 朱芳貞女士) for inspiration.
