Let Us Get Inspired To Make Pop-Up Cards: Enjoy  a  Egg  Pop-‐Up  Sampler,  made  by  a  grade  1-‐2  class,  based  on  a   storyboard  ac6vity  and  templates  on  my  pop-‐up  website:

Let Us Get Inspired To Make Pop-Up Cards:

•  Browse  some  of  Joan

Irvine’s  books  on  making   pop-‐ups. •  Visit  her  website.   Browse  some  of  the  links. •  Visit  my  pop-‐ups   website  and  enjoy  some   of  the  pop-‐up  crea6ons   students  have  made.   Become  familiar  with   some  of  the  9  types  of   pop-‐up  books  men6oned. •  Think  about  some  of  the   advantages  and   disadvantages  of  pop-‐up   books  in  the  classroom.

You  have  several  choices  for  pop-‐up  cards  on  my  web  site: 1)  Create  1  of  3  pop-‐up  card  templates,  which  can  be  used  for   any  topic  in  the  curriculum: •  "3D"  Pop-‐Up  Template •  "Talking  Mouth"  Template •  "Door  or  Flap"  Pop-‐Up  Template

You  have  several  choices  for  pop-‐up  cards  on  my  web   site: 2)  Create  1  of  5  pop-‐up  cards,  based  on  the  small  crawling   and  flying  creaturesor  life  cycles  topics  for  grade  2-‐3   science  in  Alberta: ◦  Worms ◦  Mollusks ◦  Crustaceans ◦  Arachnids ◦  Insects

6

Each  template  has  3  types  of  instruc5ons   that  will  help  you  complete  the  cards: 1.  Text  instruc5ons  are  found  on  the  card   templates  themselves. 2.  If  the  text  instruc5ons  are  not  clear,   page  1  of  each  template  includes  pictures   with  the  instruc5ons...

3.  Note  the  "Key"  found  on  each  card,  which   gives  you  very  useful  hints  on  when  and where  to  fold,  cut,  pull  or  push  out  a  pop-‐up   element:

8

All  of  these  cards  have  all  been  printed  out  for   you  at  your  ac5vity  centre. Pick  one  of  the  cards  to  build. If  you  finish  early,  try  another  one!

Other  Ac5vi5es:

Don’t  forget  to  share  your  own  great  ideas   with  the  others  in  your  group.
