N.C. Museum of Art Announces Arts in the Museum Park 2012 Summer Series Outdoor concerts and films kick off June 2 RALEIGH, N.C.—The North Carolina Museum of Art announces the 2012 Arts in the Museum Park summer season schedule of outdoor concerts and movies. Celebrating its 16th season, the series builds on its signature diverse lineup of folk favorites, up-and-coming artists, and family-friendly features. The reunion of AfroCubism opens the season on June 10, bringing together top Malian and Cuban musicians under the leadership of Buena Vista Social Club’s Elias Ochoa for a world-music event. The performance coincides with the exhibition El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote to You about Africa. Tickets to AfroCubism also provide free admission to the exhibition on the same day. The Museum hosts a notable collaboration on June 30, Doc Watson and Deep River Rising with special guests Wayne Henderson and Jeff Little, for a celebration of the legendary guitarist. Preceding the concert is a symposium with discussions on Doc’s early influences and career, his powerful technique, and his impact on American music and culture.

On July 14 Neko Case and special guest Kelly Hogan, two soulful vocalists, take the Museum Park Theater stage for the first time. Fans of The Hunger Games movie may recognize Case’s seductive voice from "Nothing to Remember," an original composition for the film’s hit soundtrack. Also making a debut appearance at the NCMA is five-time Grammy Award–winning singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter on August 25, presenting songs from her soon-to-be-released album Ashes and Roses. The Museum also welcomes back the glamorous Les Primitifs du Futur for two music–movie combos. Performing in their signature updated bal musette style, the ensemble performs prior to a screening of Midnight in Paris on August 3 and before Hugo on August 4. August 17 brings the much-anticipated return of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, the rollicking fusion of jazz, blues, funk, R&B, and rock led by 26-year-old sensation Troy Andrews.
