ASHES to EASTER A Lenten Reflection with Peter Kearney ‘Ashes to Easter’ is a prayerful sequence of songs, hymns & stories. It includes Peter’s original compositions, traditional carols and songs by Sydney Carter (composer of ‘Lord of the Dance’). Peter’s program covers the Exodus, the prophets Isaiah & John the Baptist. Other hymns and songs anticipate the events of Holy Week and Easter. Format: Songs and hymns linked by stories and reflections. The presentation unfolds without applause except at conclusion. Venue: Suitable for a Church or Hall venue. Duration: To be decided with Parish. The presentation can be 1. a single session of 60-75 minutes. 2. two sessions with interval, each session usually each lasting about 35-40 minutes. The program is mainly for adults, though upper-primary and secondary students could also find interest. Cost as quoted by email. Music has been Peter’s livelihood since 1982. Help provided: Peter provides attractive advance materials - colour posters, black/white flyers labeled with event details. Bio notes: In 1966 while studying at Sydney University with the encouragement of the University Chaplain Fr. Ted Kennedy, Peter Kearney began to write folk-hymns. ‘Fill My House’, ‘The Beatitudes’ and ‘Where is Your Song, my Lord?’ are among his better known compositions, known internationally. Peter has travelled extensively in Australia and overseas to give workshops and concerts in parishes, religious institutions and schools. The fifteen published albums of his hymns and songs include: Turn it All Around; Where Is Your Song My Lord?; Signs of Hope; The Year of God’s Favour? The Common Good; Easter Carols; Good Morning Good People! (on the life of St. Francis of Assisi) & three albums especially for children with songs including ‘This is Our School’, sung as a schoolsong in hundreds of Australian Catholic schools.
