Back-up and Restore Using Kies Important: Media that is DRM-protected will not be included in the backup because of licensing restrictions. For example, if you purchased a movie from Samsung's Media Hub, the movie will not be included in the backup. You can still retrieve the movie after restoration by signing into your Media Hub account and downloading it without being charged again. The screenshots and visual elements represented below are from the Windows based version of Kies. However, the process is the same for MacOS. You can download Kies at http://www.samsung.com/kies. Connect the device to a computer and launch Kies.

Once Kies recognizes the device, click the Backup/Restore tab.

Select the items you want Kies to backup from the device. Click the Backup button.
Kies will now initiate the backup process. Note: The time to backup/restore your device will vary. Dependent upon your computer, you may experience some idle time or slow response in Kies. Do not close any programs on your PC, disconnect or turn off your device until the backup/restore process is complete. 1.
When the process finishes, click Complete button.
Kies has successfully completed the backup process!

Data Restore 1.
Connect the device to a computer and launch Kies.

Once Kies has recognized the device, click the Backup/Restore tab.

Click the Restore button located at the bottom of the screen.
Kies will display the following message: Some of the applications running on this device may be closed, and the network will be unavailable. This means if you have an application running that is affected by the restore process it will be force-closed and unavailable temporarily. Click Continue. 4.
Select the data file you want to restore to the device. You can also click the Find File button to select a data restoration file that has not been stored in the default location on your computer.
If you have more than one backup file to choose from, take note of the date and time that each backup file was created. Under most circumstances, you'll want to choose the most recently created backup file. 5.
Click Next to continue the process.

Next, select the data items you wish to restore. The choices listed here will reflect which data items were backed up i.e. Contacts, Messages, Call Log, etc.
Click Next. Kies will begin restoring data back to your device.
