Barium Enema (Unprepped) Appointment Date and Time: _____/_____/_____ at ______________. Your child’s doctor has ordered an unprepped barium enema because of a history of constipation, difficulty stooling, or Hirshsprung disease. Unprepped means that no laxative or cleansing enemas will be given to your child to clean out his intestine first. This is an xray of the large intestine after barium is given by enema. This procedure will take about 30 minutes. During the study your child will lie on an x-ray table. A technologist will help position your child during the examination. Sometimes it is necessary to help your child remain still. Results: Call your child’s doctor 24 hours after the test has been completed to obtain the test results Please arrive at the Radiology department 30 minutes before your child’s scheduled appointment time.
