BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RULES Saturday, June 3 & Sunday, June 4 • 8:00a–6:00p

A NUMBER OF PLAYERS 1. 3 on 3 Basketball is a half-court game played by two teams of three players each, including a maximum of two substitutes. A team shall have no more than 3 players on a court. For all teams placed in a designated co-ed bracket, a member of the opposite gender must be on the court at all times. All games must start with at least 3 players on a team. B ROSTERS/AGE VERIFICATION 1. Only players who are listed on a team’s roster form may play. No alternate or pick-up players will be allowed once the tournament begins. 2. All players must have available for each of their games, acceptable documentation to verify their age and birthday. If a player’s eligibility is challenged, the player must produce appropriate documentation. 3. If a player does not produce proper documentation, the player may be disqualified from further participation in the tournament, at the discretion of the tournament director. Any false or misleading information provided by a player or team, will also be grounds for dismissal of the player and team from the tournament. C TEAM DIVISIONS 1. Each age division will be placed into brackets by tournament directors, who will consider age, gender and experience obtained during the team registration process. Individual teams may consist of male and female players. Mixed gender teams will be placed in an identified co-ed bracket if tournament directors determine there are sufficient number of co-ed teams to form a co-ed bracket. Otherwise, mixed gender teams will be placed in a male bracket and the playing rule for designated co-ed brackets will not apply (See Rule 1.A) D SCORING 1. The game is a single period of a running clock of 15 minutes. The winner is the first team to 21 or the team with the highest total after 15 minutes. 2. Shots made behind the 3 point line, will be worth 2 points. Shots inside the 3 point line, will be worth 1 point. E OVERTIME 1. Should both teams have a tied score after the 15 minutes, the first team to win by two is the winner. F TIMEOUTS 1. Each team is allowed a single, one-minute timeout. 2. An injury of a player or any other unusual circumstances deemed by the court official will be an exception for clock stoppage. G SUBSTITUTIONS 1. Substitutions may only be made after a whistle has blown for some type of stoppage of play with the acknowledgment of the referee. 2

SUBSTITUTIONS (cont.)

2. If a team is not ready to play within 5 minutes of elapsed time, the team ready to play legally wins by forfeit. H OPENING POSSESION/JUMP BALL 1. The official will flip a coin with the captains before the game begins. The winner of the toss takes possession of the ball first at the beginning of the game. The alternating possession rule will determine every jump ball situation through the rest of the game. I STALLING 1. Deliberate stalling or attempts to freeze the ball shall result in loss of ball possession. A shot must be attempted within 15 seconds (official’s judgment). Officials should warn a team 5 seconds before making a stalling call. 2. Deliberately stalling the ball will result in a Technical Foul. J CHECKING THE BALL 1. The ball must be “checked’ by an opposing player before it is put into play. This includes after a foul has been awarded, out of bounds or after any stoppage of play. The check-in must occur behind the “3-point line”. The ball can be passed, shot or dribbled to begin play. K TAKING IT BACK 1. The ball must be “taken back” on each change of possession, regardless of whether or not a shot was attempted. The player must have both feet behind the “3-point line”, to be considered clear. 2. If the offensive team fails to cross the “take back” line with both feet, the official should attempt to verbally communicate to the players that the ball was not taken back past the “take back” line. 3. If a shot is taken and made by the offensive team before the ball was taken back past the “take back” line, the officials should blow the whistle and stop play immediately. The basket would be disallowed and the offensive team will retain possession of the ball (check at the top of the key). 4. High school rules shall be enforced whenever applicable. L

FOULING

1. No foul shots will be taken. If a player is in the act of shooting inside of the 3-point line and misses their attempt, they’ll get an automatic point. If a player is in the act of shooting behind the 3-point line and misses their attempt, they’ll get an automatic one (1) point and retain possession. 2. A player in the act of shooting inside of the 3-point line, and makes their attempt, will get an automatic two (2) points. A player in the act of shooting behind the 3-point line, and makes their attempt, will get an automatic three (3) points. 3. Flagrant Fouls are penalized by an automatic two (2) points, retained possession of the ball, and disqualification of the offended player. 4. Technical Fouls and Intentional Fouls result in an automatic two (2) points and retained possession of the ball. 5. Player control fouls are dealt with in the normal manner throughout the entire game. 6. Players will be removed from games on their 5th foul committed or for unsportsmanlike conduct. 3
