ABSTRACT From the literature survey of the working of Electric scooters, it is understood that the electric scooters are rightly the future vehicles which world replace the conventional petrol and diesel vehicles. The electric scooters have no engine and these vehicles are operated by electric batteries. The batteries used are Rechargeable Lead-Acid batteries. In the available electric scooters, the batteries have to be charged by providing external AC currents. But by attaching the Alternators and just modifying the electric wiring, the electric batteries can be charged while the vehicle is in motion. The batteries are charged from the current produced by alternators. By implementing such battery charging system, we find that the full charging time of the battery id reduced to approx. 3 hours and the longest distance traveled by the vehicle increased to 45-50 kms, which was initially 25-30 kms for full charge. Key words: Electric scooters, electric batteries, rechargeable Lead-Acid batteries, alternators.
INTRODUCTION The available electric scooters are provided with a battery charger, which is used for externally charging the battery. But in the present work, we have developed a new battery charging system which charges the battery with the current generated from the alternator. The main drawback about the electric scooters is the limitation of the battery charge. The electric scooters can run until they are provided the energy from the rechargeable battery. The newly developed concept of the battery charging system has shown fruitful results in the working of electric scooters.
