~ BATTERY POWERED ~ Director of Development and Battery Powered Membership Program Overview Battery Powered is a member-founded, member-funded program of The Battery, a San Francisco social club. Made possible by Michael and Xochi Birch and the philanthropy team at Amplifier Strategies, the program is designed to help members explore themes, share ideas and activate their generosity to spark lasting change. Each trimester, the Battery Powered community tackles a new theme, representative of some of the biggest issue areas of our time. Over the course of the trimester we hear from experts and organizations on the front lines of some of society’s toughest challenges, and at the conclusion of each theme, members vote to financially back a selection of organizations. Since its inception in 2014. Battery Powered has raised over $8M and awarded funds to 31 organizations that have a serious chance of making society stronger. Its popularity has resulted in a world class donor circle, growing at an impressive pace. This success, coupled with The Battery’s positive reputation, gives the program strong convening power to draw both well-known experts and celebrity presenters to amplify its voice. This is genuinely a cutting edge model for giving. Position Overview The opportunity itself is very unique. The Battery membership reflects the many faces of Silicon Valley and the Bay Area - from tech founders to well-known artists - and you will routinely interact at its highest levels. These changemakers and influencers have both the capacity and motivation to make our society stronger, and you will connect them with the opportunity to do so in an innovative and deeply rewarding fashion. Battery Powered is looking for an accomplished, energetic, and creative development professional to join the team. You are an incredible relationship builder. You energize people to commit and take action. Your passion for giving is infectious and the depth of your knowledge around philanthropy is exceptional. You'll work closely with both the Co-Founders of The Battery and with Amplifier Strategies to activate generosity within The Battery membership. You'll analyze current giving levels and member engagement activities to develop strategic solutions for growing the Battery Powered community. The position reports directly to the President of The Battery Foundation, with tangential reporting to the General Manager of The Battery and the Director of Philanthropy at Amplifier Strategies.

Key Responsibilities: Fundraising Strategy & Development In its first year, Battery Powered activated $8M in generosity and enrolled 15% of the club's membership (600 Battery Powered members, total membership of 3,500 and growing). You will be expected to activate another $8M in new memberships and renewals the first year, and $12M in the second year. Our longer term vision for the program is to grant $10M a year in funding to amazing organizations. Identify, analyze, and propose innovative development strategies that facilitate donor engagement and the achievement of fundraising goals. ● Ability to conceive of, implement, and manage successful fundraising campaigns ● Develop fundraising strategies and implementation plans based on research and analysis ● Deliver results. Achieve a fundraising goal of $8M in the first year and $12M in the second year ● Raise awareness of Battery Powered throughout the Club and enroll members in the program Member Engagement and Renewal Oversee all aspects of member engagement to deepen involvement in the program and grow the membership base ● Develop and manage a plan for strengthening member engagement and growing the community ● Cultivate high-value member relationships, converting prospective members and achieving a high renewal rate ● Build and maintain strong, collaborative senior partner relationships with respect to fundraising objectives, work plans, recommendations, and potential risks/roadblocks ● Provide leadership to internal and partner teams to adopt new ideas and innovative fundraising approaches Team Leadership and Project Management Provide team leadership and oversee the development and improvement of development systems and processes ● Develop fundraising timelines, define team roles and responsibilities, and ensure the effective management of development projects ● Ensure achievement of fundraising and membership goals by effectively allocating team resources, tracking progress against milestones, and managing the development budget ● Onboard new team members, participate in and/or lead internal brainstorming sessions, and manage the formal and informal professional development of team members

Desired Experience and Skills ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

At least 8-10 years of experience in fundraising with impeccable track record of helping visionary organizations achieve funding goals Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public administration and/or a related field required; master’s degree preferred Solid understanding of philanthropy best practices and professional grantmaking in a foundation environment Experience with membership organizations, a plus, with a strong recruitment and renewal track record Strong analytical skills, creative problem-solving ability, and broad intellectual interest Strong written communications skills, along with highly effective oral communications and engaging presentation skills Experience in high-end, luxury, and/or boutique environments a plus Results-oriented with the ability to work under pressure, adapt easily to changing situations and priorities, and meet multiple deadlines and goals
