BB 9.1 INSTALLATION CHECKLIST  William De Wysockie  Includes material published by Blackboard Inc.     PREINSTALLATION CHECKLIST   Back up the following:  o All course content files  o All site custom images  o Bb databases   Contact Blackboard to obtain a production Blackboard 9.1 license at:  http://www.blackboard.com/Sites/UpgradeCenter/golive.aspx  Allow two business days!   Check Blackboard Maintenance page for any maintenance alerts at:  http://kb.blackboard.com/display/DOCS/Blackboard+Maintenance+Center   Practice developing Blackboard Learn home page and login page using CSS   Download and review all Blackboard 9.1 documentation.  o Review Blackboard Learn Release 9.1 Installation Guide and complete  Pre‐Installation Worksheet  o Review required software to see if requirements have been updated (see   Release 9.1 Installation Guide)  o Review Blackboard Learn 9.1 Release Notes  o Review Blackboard Learn 9.1 Hardware Sizing Guide  o Review Blackboard Learn 9.1 Operations Workbook   Install IIS

 Verify that Java 6_13 is still the recommended version of Java. Install it.  o Set JAVA_HOME   Install SQL Server 2005 SP2 on dedicated server  o Install at the drive level  o Use Mixed Mode Security Authentication  o Install using a local account  o Install using the default instance name  o Verify that the SQL Server Agent can be successfully started  o Verify that the SQL Server Agent is set to Automatic   Synchronize server clocks   Ensure following ports are open:  o Web server port (80)  o Collaboration TCP/IP port (8010)  o Collaboration server HTTP port (8011)   Ensure that a SMPT server is available so the Installer can connect to it   Use IIS to stop the default web site   Adjust feeds to any changes in integration of Blackboard Learn with SIS   Review the Pre‐Installation Checklist for Windows (see Release 9.1 Installation  Guide). This includes the following checklists:  o Blackboard Basics  o Application Server Checklist  o Database Server Checklist  o SQL Server Agent Startup   Download and learn how to work with the new Language Pack SDK  2   

  INSTALLATION CHECKLIST    Refer to the Pre‐Installation Worksheet during installation   Run the installer  o Click on the Updater file to launch it or open a command‐line prompt and  navigate to the directory that holds the Updater.  o Run the following command to launch the Updater:  o A welcome message will appear with a reminder to read the release  notes and the installations instructions completely before updating. Click  "Next" to continue.  o The first Updater page asks where the /blackboard is found and where  the blackboard/content directory is found. Click "Next" to accept the  defaults or enter new values and then click "Next."  Load‐Balanced users  should use the mapped UNC path.  o The next prompt presents several options. The options are "Update,"  "Provide new License file," "Uninstall" and "Uninstall Application Server."  Select the appropriate option and click "Next." The "Update" option will  use the license file already configured and "Provide new license file" will  upgrade the system and apply the new license.  o A message will appear that displays the changes that will be made when  the Updater is run. Click "Next" to start the update.

o EZproxy (used to provide student access  to online research)  

Review configuration information
