Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on Biotechnology for North East Region (NER)

Handholding support to prospective entrepreneurs of NER by Biotech Consortium India Limited, New Delhi

Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) with the support of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India proposes to organize “Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Development in Biotechnology” in North East Region. BCIL is a company promoted by DBT, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India and the all India financial institutions for facilitating commercialization of biotechnology across the country. To learn more about BCIL, please visit BCIL’s official website (www.bcil.nic.in) Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on biotechnology in North Eastern Region aims at assisting the budding entrepreneurs by providing guidance and technical support for setting up of biotech ventures, in North Eastern Region of India. BCIL will provide handholding to prospective entrepreneurs for (i) identification of suitable projects and preparation of business plan (ii) hands-on training in the selected area (iii) preparation of bankable detailed project report (iv) sourcing and transfer of technology (v) liaisoning with different agencies, (vi) assistance in project implementation on turn key basis etc.

Area of EDP: Comprehensive EDP will cover the following 5 potential areas of investment in biotechnology     

Micropropagation Orchid culture Biofertilizers and Biopesticides Production Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Extraction Secondary Agriculture (value added products from ginger etc.)

Thus, a unique opportunity is knocking the door for the aspirating entrepreneurs from the Northeast India. Candidates who are seriously interested to start their own venture will be selected for the programme. No registration fee would be charged for the programme. However, candidates will have to bear their own expenses towards travel and lodging/boarding and are also expected to be able to invest minimum margin money atleast 30-40% of the project cost as per the requirement of the banks. No. of seats: Total 30 (maximum 6 candidates in each above identified area)

Eligibility criteria for participation in the Comprehensive EDP in Biotechnology in NE Region Qualification:

Post Graduates/Graduates candidates preferably from Life Science and allied areas

Domicile:

Candidates should be a native of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim

Age limit:

Minimum 21 years and maximum 50 years

Financial Status:

Candidates should have minimum margin money atleast 30-40% of the total project cost (as per project profile and requirement of banks for procuring loans to bankable projects)

Note: Existing entrepreneurs who wish to diversify into biotechnology are also welcome. Due to limited number of seats, only a single candidate should apply from partnership firm, organization or groups.

Selection Criteria Candidates will be shortlisted based on their qualification, experience, availability of funds (margin money) and the concept note for the starting their venture. The decision of the Selection Committee would be final and binding.

Programme Coverage BCIL will extend technical support/handholding to the selected candidates for the following activities: (i)

Orientation Programme Selected candidates will get opportunity to attend three days orientation programme in the selected investment area. This orientation programme will be organized preferably in north eastern region. The orientation programme would consist of management aspects required for any venture and technical aspects of the specified area. After the programme, the candidates would be provided assistance to undergo hands-on in-depth training in any suitable commercial biotech industry.

(ii)

Hands on training After completing the orientation programme, candidates would be placed in suitable industry/institute for in-depth hands on training. This training will provide them unique opportunity to learn relevant techniques and management aspects. After completion of the training programme the candidate is expected to acquire necessary skills for pursuing

business in the identified area. Candidates will also have necessary understanding for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) as per their requirements and business plan.

(iii)

Guidance in preparation of bankable DPR

The draft detailed project report prepared by the candidates would be studied by BCIL. BCIL will finalize the DPR in consultation with the individual candidate. This report would be validated by industry experts to enable the candidate to submit the report if they desire to funding agency for financing the proposed biotech venture. (iv)

Advisory and liaisoning with concerned agency

BCIL will provide advisory/technical assistance to each candidate throughout the programme. BCIL will prepare the candidates for presenting the DPR to the funding agency and help them to respond to the queries facilitating availing funds to start the venture.

(v)

Turnkey implementation Candidates who are interested in seeking BCIL’s assistance for turnkey implementation of the project, will be provided consultancy for the same on payment of the necessary consultancy fee to BCIL.
