Fall 2013
Dear Fellow Knitters and Crocheters, As we gear up for fall, we are hard at work planning classes, arranging for some guest teachers and working up new samples for the shop. Our annual market for fall yarns was held in June in Columbus, Ohio.
This year Adrienne
accompanied me and it was great fun to have her with me. As it was all new to her, I got to see the show through some fresh eyes. There are always more yarns than you can imagine or buy, more classes than you can take and more activities than you can attend. It is 5 straight days of non-stop go. I have made a number of Market buddies (like train buddies for those who commute). We always make it a point to have dinner or just meet to share the latest happenings in our shops. It really is a great support and is wonderful to exchange ideas and to hear what others are doing.
It
recharges you and helps you prepare for the busy fall/winter season. We eagerly await the arrival of our fall orders. Rowan magazine 54 has arrived to much excitement. It appears I have made August 15 as the target date for many of our new yarns. Please give us a little time to get our shipments entered, priced and on the floor before you expect to see the fall line. It remains extremely reassuring that my favorite companies continue to push the envelope with new fibers and new designs. New companies crop up with exciting new offerings.
The Fibre Company has a new lace weight yarn called Meadow with numerous new shawl patterns, designs from Grace Anna Farrows of The Fine Line fame. They’ve also come out with a new booklet of baby patterns that are irresistible. Lang yarns has both new yarns and great sweater patterns for fall. Color blocking and stitchwork are prevalent in their styles. Rowan certainly doesn’t disappoint us with a new angora yarn and a new striping yarn. Anzula, a hand-dye company, has a fabulous lace weight yarn called Mermaid, a silk and sea cell blend, with which I have great lace knitting plans. Shibui continues to inspire us with their Mix Parties. We’re in the process of planning one. This is an evening where customers have the opportunity to play with the various combinations of their yarns. In essence you are creating the fiber by blending two or more of their great yarns to get the look and the right gauge for a project. They have numerous patterns that allow you to pick and choose. Have I mentioned Habu? Our inventory of Habu fibers has expanded and we have a number of samples on hand.
We have Julie Hoover’s Decalage
pattern which used their stainless fibers along with their fine merino.
I’m predicting that the
Assemblage pattern Kozue which used Habu’s cashmere will be a seaon hit. It appears I am running out of room…. Come visit and in the meantime happy knitting and crocheting! Lynette
