JOB DESCRIPTION BELLEMEADE ENTERPRISE CENTER MANAGER February 2018 The Organization Groundwork RVA, Inc. is a locally-based 501(c) 3 non-profit organization working to create sustainable environmental change through community-based partnerships and youth leadership. Groundwork’s mission and operations are premised on the understanding that environmental conditions are inextricably linked to the economic and social health of a neighborhood. The Green Team encourages teens to think innovatively about building community Teens create new connections to the outdoors for Richmond youth and residents through trails and interpretation, by creating sustainable landscapes at school campuses, and by transforming blighted spaces into useful public assets. Green Team projects are achieved through teen leadership, carried out in partnership with neighbors, and with the support of municipal leaders. Green Workforce engages teens in landscape management, outdoor recreational leadership, and preservation of natural and cultural resources in paid training activities. These opportunities range from the maintenance of Richmond park and school properties, construction and expanded access to park and recreational sites, and immersion youth corps experiences in State and National Parks. Groundwork RVA envisions a Richmond in which young people are leaders of positive change and build resilience in their school and residential communities. Our work is guided by the belief that environmental contamination, racial inequality, and housing, education, and transit segregation are challenges ingrained in Richmond’s landscape and built environment. Equipping young adults for careers and community leadership through hands-on experiences restoring the built and natural environment is crucial to building a healthy city. This is accomplished by: • Facilitating youth and resident opportunities to restore neglected and contaminated public spaces • Being a catalyst for healthy neighborhoods and collaborator with residents in advocating for access to recreational and pedestrian infrastructure • Training youth for careers in sustainable landscape management • Creating open space stewardship through events, education and volunteer programs.
