Bi-communal Peace Initiative United Cyprus DECLARATION Need to act now! The negotiation process is currently entering its most decisive stage. The momentum and positive climate created last May through the declared common vision of the two leaders for solution and reunification of the island is going through difficult ground. The forces opposing a bi-communal bi-zonal federation on both sides appear as vociferous as ever. At this critical juncture the bi-communal movement needs to raise its voice so that the will of the broad masses of Greek and Turkish Cypriots can be heard loud and clear. We expect our leaders to move swiftly and without hesitation along the declared path, based on the solid ground already covered and seeking creative ways out of the difficulties currently faced. We feel that there are sufficient ideas on the table to help the leaders find satisfactory arrangements for the property and territorial issues. We need to focus at the broader picture of peace and prosperity rather than the individual adjustments that may need to be made to reach an agreement. We welcome the progress achieved on the issue of the missing persons and the prospect of excavations in 30 potential burial sites. Our violent past, the lives lost and the pain suffered by all communities in Cyprus clearly show the way forward. Securing Peace for the future generations is far more important than the compromises we need to make. Whatever the agreement reached it cannot be perfect. There will be problems. But unlike the past the Bi-communal Movement declares its strong commitment that it will work hard to protect the reunified state that will emerge, it will work hard to safeguard peace and prosperity despite any problems that might arise. The prevailing conditions both within Cyprus and the area create a positive conjuncture for achieving a solution. Such a development will revitalize the Cyprus economy, will create the positive environment for developing the gas fields in the whole of the Eastern Mediterranean, it will allow Cyprus to become a pillar of stability and cooperation in the area. Conditions however change and the window of opportunity will not always be there. We need to act now! We call upon our leaders to maximize their efforts to achieve results, while at the same time keeping society aware and in tune with the developments. We call upon the broader masses of Greek and Turkish Cypriots to unite in action to push forward for Solution and Reunification. We will all meet at the office of the Turkish Cypriot leader on Saturday th 28 November, 2015 at 11:00 am to deliver our message to Mr Akinci and from then on march across the dividing line to deliver the same message to the Greek Cypriot leader Mr Anastasiades. LET US ALL BE THERE! Supporting Organizations: 1 2
