Biased Week One BOTTOM LINE We have a natural bias towards inaction. But God is calling us to Go.
GOAL OF THE GROUP We will discuss what it looks like to fall victim to the Bystander Effect and what the Bible says about getting involved.

Watch the Bystander Effect Video. https://youtu.be/OSsPfbup0ac Have you ever found yourself in this situation? Driven past a stranded driver figuring someone else would help? Our natural bias is towards inaction. Read James 4:17. Read 1 Samuel 14:4-14. Jonathan followed God into an unknown situation with uncertain results. Have you ever felt like God has told you to do something? Did you listen? What was it like to follow God into uncertainty? If you didn’t follow His promptings, how did it feel to continue past that moment without listening? Read Luke 10:25-37. The first two men who passed had “good reasons” for not stopping to help. Maybe they even figured someone else would stop. Jesus is making a point about loving our neighbors, despite religious or racial differences, but we could make the same point about action vs. inaction. Do you ever struggle with action vs. inaction? Why or why not? What are some “good reasons” we have for not helping when we see a need? How can we overcome those obstacles/objections and move towards a bias for action? Where have you seen need in your world or our church that you wish someone would do something about? How can you be a part of the difference that needs to be made in that area?
TRY THIS This week, find one area or opportunity that you can jump into to make a difference. Maybe it’s joining a serving team at church. Maybe its volunteering at a local school. Pray that God opens your eyes to what He would have you do. And that you have the courage to follow.
