Due date: Monday, April 24, 2017 Description: Your book talk will be a 4-5 minute talk about the book you were assigned. Your book talk must have the six following things. -------1. A hook. A hook gets the reader’s attention and draws the listener in, making them interested in what you are saying from the very beginning. _____2. Title, author and genre You can also give some information about the author, especially if he or she has written any other books that your classmates might know about, or if he/she has won any awards for his/her writing. Genre means the type of story. Types of genre are fiction, non-fiction, fantasy science fiction, etc. ____3. Summary. Describe the setting, main characters and conflict of the story. Give a short summary but don’t tell the ending! ____4. Choose one of the following: Connect the book to some events in your life. Give a review of what you liked about the book. -----5. Passage: Choose an exciting or interesting passage from the book to read so that the class will be interested. Stop reading at a moment that leaves the audience hanging and say something like, “If you want to know more, you’ll have to read the book.” ------6. Questions: After your book talk, your classmates and teacher will have the opportunity to ask you questions about your book, so be prepared.
