BookData Online: Search by Binding/Format What is Binding/Format? Binding/format describes a title’s physical form. One title may be published in several different formats so each format is given a unique ISBN, ensuring it can be easily identified, listed and ordered.

How many different Binding/Format types are there? BookData Online lists 21 different Binding/Format types including Hardback, Paperback, Audiobook, Mixed-media pack and e-book (see the screen grab below for the full list).

How do I search by Binding/Format? Searching by Binding/Format allows you to identify titles for a particular audience or individual

requirement. To illustrate how to search by Binding/Format we have included some popular examples: Example 1: Searching for e-books by Patricia Cornwell Click on the New Search tab to bring up the Product Search form. Make sure that your Product Search form includes the Binding/Format and Supplier Availability search options. These can be added by clicking on Form Builder, selecting Binding/Format and Supplier Availability from the top box and clicking View Form. Next to Author/Contributor enter Patricia Cornwell and then tick the box in Binding/Format beside eBook. To limit your search to available e-books scroll down to the Supplier Availability and tick the box beside the Market you wish to search and the box beside Available. Then click on Search Now.

The results show all e-books by Patricia Cornwell available in the market you selected. In this example we have searched for e-books available in the UK.

Example 2: Searching for maps on Dartmoor Click on the New Search tab to bring up the Product Search form. Again make sure your Product Search form includes the Binding/Format and Supplier Availability search options (see the first example for instructions on how to do this). Next to Title enter the term Dartmoor and tick the box in Binding/Format beside Maps. To limit your search to available maps scroll down to the Supplier Availability and tick the box beside the Market you wish to search and the box beside Available. Then click on Search Now.

The results show all maps covering Dartmoor which are available in the market you have selected. In this example we have searched for maps available in the UK.

Example 3: Searching for large print Horrid Henry titles This example uses the search field Edition Type. Edition Type can be added to your Product Search form using the Quick Builder. Click on the down arrow underneath Quick Builder, select Edition Type and then click on Add selected field. Next to the Title field enter Horrid Henry and next to the Edition Type field enter Large Editions (this encompasses large print editions and large type editions). Then click on Search Now. The results show large print titles in the Horrid Henry series.
