Human Velocity Stack Product Launch
Santa Fe, NM., November 1, 2017: Velocity stacks in race cars commonly produce 3% more power by minimizing inlet air turbulence, straightening intake air flow and increasing air velocity, thus reducing inlet pressure losses. Lightweight automotive velocity stacks allow greater volumetric efficiency resulting in more air into the engine, yielding 3% more power.
Human athletes are also fuel-burning engines, and like a race car, we carry our fuel on board. By increasing our air intake to burn that fuel, we can maximize our power output and reduce fatigue in aerobic sports like jogging, hiking, biking, rowing and other endurance activities. For the first time, this lightweight method of increasing the power available from naturally aspirated engines is now available to humans in the form of the Human Velocity Stack.
For Paul Kalenian, one of the co-inventors of the HVS, living at 7500’ in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the need for such a device was obvious. As an avid engine builder and self-described gearhead, Kalenian shared, “I’ve spent my life around engines and know what velocity stacks do for high-performance vehicles; they funnel in oxygen to increase power and performance. Since we are all basically fuel burning engines too, why wouldn’t the same principle work for humans?”
During 18 months of research and development at altitude and sea level, a series of HVS prototypes were 3D printed. The HVS shape that balanced comfort and airflow improvement was optimized, allowing production molds to be machined, and the HVS was ready to come to market. At a quick glance, the Human Velocity Stack looks something like a mouth guard, but it's not a mouth guard at all. It has been designed to assist in one's athletic performance and stamina before, during and after any aerobic noncontact sport.
The device is made of flexible clear, FDA Grade silicone rubber and is designed to easily fit over your lips and teeth resting comfortably in your mouth. The smooth, soft curved exterior guides the air flowing over your lips and teeth, allowing air to lightly compress, straighten, and flow faster with less effort, BOTH when you inhale and exhale….because BOTH ends of the HVS are velocity stacks! With the HVS, users can Inhale more deeply, fill the lungs more completely, exhale more thoroughly, with one simple device. The HVS only weighs half an ounce, yet improves the efficiency of your breathing.
According to Douglas Hoon of Guilford, CT, the proof is in the testing, “Blood oxygen levels were tested at altitude and clearly show the increase in oxygenation with the use of the device. At rest, with no breathing device, our test subject recorded oxygenation levels of 90.1% and had a significant increase to 96.8% with the HVS in use. The test results recorded during exercise consistently recorded increased oxygenation levels of 3.5% or more under several different test conditions, with faster recovery.”
The ecommerce website (www.myhvs.com) was launched on October 3, 2017, selling the HVS product to athletes of all types and abilities. And at $19.95, the creators wanted to make the cost of entry for increased performance attainable for all those who are interested. Imagine winning a race by 3% and recovering faster as well!
