Bridge Creek Fire DAILY UPDATE August 28, 2017
Fire Information Keller ICP 509-634-7332
Northwest Incident Management Team 11
Nathan Rabe, Incident Commander
For Immediate Release
The Bridge Creek Fire, which is burning 13 miles north of Keller on the Colville Indian Reservation, has moderated behavior with backing and flanking fire and occasional single tree torching inside the perimeter. Conditions have allowed the Northwest Incident Management Team 11 (NW IMT 11) to utilize direct suppression strategies that have the potential to considerably reduce the footprint of the fire. The strategy utilizes a wellestablished anchor at the heel of the fire along Bridge Creek Road as well as previously developed contingency lines. In order to employ the direct attack strategy, fire crews have begun to open up roads on the interior of the fire, which provides additional escape routes and reduces hazards posed to firefighters as they employ the new, direct attack tactic. An additional safety zone, developed yesterday, will be utilized to mitigate concerns for firefighter safety. Crews will also continue to reduce hazard trees on the eastern fireline where they will mop, secure, and hold the fire. Additional safety concerns include critical fire weather. Incident meteorologists assigned to the fire have forecasted very low humidity and poor humidity recovery overnight, as well as atmospheric instability that could cause development of a plume over the fire. Temperatures are expected to continue to rise through Tuesday, with the high tomorrow around 97 degrees. Mount Tolman Fire Center has set the fire danger level at ‘very high’ across the Colville Reservation. Colville Tribal Natural Resource Officers will continue to patrol Bridge Creek Road. The public is asked to drive cautiously due to increased traffic and potential smoke over the roadway. In addition to fire traffic on the road, logging traffic and holiday weekend traffic is expected. For information regarding road closure changes, please refer to the Colville Tribal Broadcast, News and Information Facebook page at Facebook.com/CCTBroadcasts or call the Bridge Creek Fire Information line at 509-634-7332.
