Programme Content
The DBA is divided into two parts: Theory and Research (approximately two years)
This period comprises research training workshops which provide participants with expertise in research methods research design, data-collection and data analysis techniques. Participants will produce a state-of-the-art literature review, a detailed research proposal and a pilot research project. They are trained to conduct, write up and disseminate high quality research of doctoral standard. As a result they will learn to think critically and link practice to theory and vice versa. Individuals will achieve a greater level of effectiveness as practitioners in managing business innovation, technology and change.
Faculty Expertise Both IdM-SSSA and GEM bring together faculty with a broad range of expertise and an international reputation in research on business innovation, technology management and the organisational dimensions of technology change. The workshops are led by faculty from both institutions who are international leaders in their fields. In addition to this there are periodic workshop contributions from alumni and guest speakers from industry.
Research and Thesis (approximately two years)
During this period participants undertake research which is built upon the research proposal and pilot project conducted in the first part of the programme. The overall outcome is the publication of a doctoral thesis, which is subject to an oral examination. In addition, attendance to other events (short workshops, conferences and doctoral symposia) organised as part of the programme is also encouraged.

Services to Participants Who Should Apply? Recruitment to this programme is on an international basis, although participants are expected mainly from Italy, France and the rest of Europe, they come from a wide variety of countries and career backgrounds. These may include: management, sciences, humanities and technical and engineering fields. Typically participants have attained a high level of professional achievement and are likely to be in their thirties or forties.

Programme Structure Stage I: Candidacy (18–24 months of part-time study): Training in Doctoral Research in Management Sciences
All participants have access to both institutions’ Computing Services that offer a wide range of office, statistical and specialised software, and also provide an unparalleled access from distance to the widest range of Library Services including all business and social sciences databases and online scholarly and professional journals. Additional facilities include databases, online access to scientific journals, special rates for accomodation in Pisa and possibility to use the Sant'Anna's and GEM's canteens.
Location Participants may follow every workshop either in Pisa or Grenoble, with the exception of the first and last workshops which will be held only in Pisa and Grenoble respectively.

Participants whose first language is not English or who have not already studied/worked successfully in an English-speaking environment will be required to provide evidence of advanced proficiency in English.
