BST 2125 (Pali): Introduction to Pali Language : Basic Grammar and Composition Course Objectives The objective of the course is to give basic knowledge of Pali language to the students who are specializing in Buddhist studies and develop their reading, comprehension and writing skills in Pali. Course Outcomes: At the completion of the course students should be able to: Identify basic Pali Grammar: alphabet, combinations, cases, conjugation and declination of nouns and verbs. Translate simple Pali passages, prose and verse, into Sinhala or English. Read and understand simple prose and verse in Pali language. Write simple sentences in Pali language.

Course Content The Course will cover the following themes: I. Pali alphabet II. Basic categories of nouns and verbs III. Gender and cases IV. Declension of nouns and verbs V. Reading and comprehension methods and techniques
